in a funny yet sad side note Cummings sued ESPN for replaying the fight, claiming that they had misappropriated his image and likeness. Of course he lost.it was part of his jailhouse legal practice, since he is serving I believe life in prison for murder.

I read about it in a boxing mag. in the early 80s. There was a photo of Joe sitting on his stool and he had a spare tire around his middle.

Joe Frazier went back & forth between forgiving Ali & resentment.
While it would have been nice if he was like MLK, I cannot fault him, Ali was beyond an *******.

I have ALI as my GOAT & recognize his great crarm & much goodness, but he is a profoundly unintergrated personality.

Frazier gave Ali money no questions asked when he was exiled & hurting.

Continually tried to overturn his ban, appealing directly up to Nixon.

Ali repayed him with personal attacks & played off racism & did not care if Frazier felt hurt or humiliated. Nor presumably the attacks his kids faced in school.

After there last fight he sent someone else to presumably make amends. Joe wanted to hear it directly from Ali. He never did.

Ali at best LIES to himself that it was all done to promote the fights.

He was consciously cruel. The ugly comments & pretending Joe was an uncle Tom when Ali had the comfy upbringing was a joke.

Yeah but the thing is Ali was clowning and didn't realise the affects it had on Joe. Deep down Ali loved Frazier and had huge respect for him, he just loved to play up to the camera and thought people found it funny.

Ali: "I'm sorry Joe Frazier is mad at me. I'm sorry I hurt him. Joe Frazier is a good man, and I couldn't have done what I did without him, and he couldn't have done what he did without me. And if God ever calls me to a holy war, I want Joe Frazier fighting beside me. "

It's true he genuinely did feel remorse for the things he said about Joe.
