Who would win this match up? Could Floyd avoid Frazier's powerful left hook and outwork Joe? 15 Rounds.

i think floyd would cause frazier alot of problems early on with his handspeed but i think around the 4th frazxier would start getting through and by about the 9th he would ko patterson

Yeah, good post. I think it might be a bloody and disturbing loss for Patterson, but he would not be without his moments.

I see this as a bad match up for Floyd stylistically ,Fraziers non stop pressure would overwhelm Patterson around the 8th round imo.

No disrespect to Floyd, but this is Frazier's fight imo.

Once again McGrain picks the best possible shot to accomodate as his avatar from a major boxing event.

Floyd's blazing hand speed and excellent combinations would give Frazier big trouble in the early rounds, but eventually Frazier's left hook would do the trick and catch Floyd, put him down for the count, probably in the later rounds.

Patterson outworking Frazier?!?! You've got it backwards, here. Patterson was, at times, rightly faulted for his lack of a high workrate. Classic example; in the Jimmy Ellis fight, which he did still arguably win, Patterson spent long stretches of the action, round after round, bouncing around without punching, apparently waiting for Ellis to open up whilst Ellis simply stood back and flicked an occasional jab, and Floyd lost a number of rounds almost purely on that account. Frazier, on the other hand, was a punching maniac. There has just about never been a heavyweight who put forth the kind of consistent pressure round after round that Joe did.

Patterson and Frazier were both quick, bobbing-and-weaving left-hookers, but Frazier was bigger, stronger, busier, harder-hitting, and more durable. Patterson's only major advantage, I think, would be his handspeed- Frazier had fast hands himself, but Patterson's were probably the quickest of all the heavyweight champs. About Patterson's only chance, I imagine, would be to go for broke early and try to land something very big, the problem being that Patterson, although he packed a good deal of heat, was no Foreman in there and would be more likely to get himself knocked out than deliver the knockout even in this scenario.

I like Frazier by KO around the fifth.

An interesting match, however, Frazier too hot and smokin' for Floyd Patterson to handle and deal with...... Frazier KO's Patterson in about 7 or 8 rds.....

I can see Frazier driving him back on the backfoot before a famous left hook puts Patterson down for the 10 count.
