Carpienter had enough tricks up his sleeve and hit hard enough to hold Frazier off for a little bit but Frazier would eventually get through and then its lights out. Frazier KO 7
You dont like my criteria for rating heavyweights, and I get that. I would challenge you to point out any occasion when I have applied them inconsistently however. If a modern fighter legitimately has a good resume then I give them credit for it, and if an old timer has a thin resume, then I am the first to admit it.
Wasn't Dempsey asked to let the fight go a few rounds to let the fans get their money's worth? Frazier would take Carpentier in 2-3 rounds max.
That might well have happened, but we can’t be sure. Carpintier was unequivocally a strong challenger, in the division that existed at the time. That aside, he was overmatched against Dempsey, and he would have been overmatched against Frazier.
Carpentier, the man who was no match for Siki, against Frazier? Really? Frazier in one. (Dempsey carried him.)
The reason I posed the question was in relation to my Dempsey vs Frazier thread earlier in the week. I was wondering how so many could write Frazier off and what it was based on.
