Joe Frazier vs George Carpentier

Dempsey has the real hvywt-grade firepower, and starts very fast, while Frazier is a slow starter and vulnerable early.

 

Dempseys "real hw firepower" is based on beating guys far less skilled and usually much smaller than the men Frazier beat. People dismiss Buster Mathis but Mathis was a big, mobile, skilled fighter that makes the 97 year old fat inactive Willard look like the resurrected mummy he was. Think of this: Bob Foster would have absolutely killed Carpentier. He was better in every regard and look what Frazier did to him. Frazier-Carpentier wouldnt be remotely competetive. It would be a mismatch.

 

Didn't Willard knock out Jack Johnson....some who up to 1950 regarded as the greatest of all time.

 

So because fighter A beats fighter B, whom fighter C previously lost to, fighter A beats C? You dksab.

 

How old was johnson, how many years before dempsey did he do that, how many fights did he have in the YEARS between dempsey and johnson and how long had it been since his last fight? *Drops mic*

The unreal credit Dempsey gets from beating a fat inactive old undertrained and limited even at his best willard is beyond ridicilous. Nobody else would be given the kind of credibility dempsey gets from that one fight. Its a ****ing joke. If primo carnera was 37, coming off a three year layoff, and was also fat and out of shape would we give anybody credit for beating him? **** no! And Carnera was more athletic and skilled than jess willard.

Its laughable. LAUGHABLE. Ali was a million times bettee than willard and a million times more active and nobody ever gives spinks more than a passing nod for beating THAT Ali yet Dempsey gets a **** ton of credit for beating Willards inept fat old ass based on what? The pointless size disparity that amounted to a dirigible in a dogfight with an f-15.

 

One thing i do know is that both foster and frazier would the absolute dog **** out of carpentiers foppish overrated french ass.

 

Your right. Dempsey was mostly myth.

 

Dempsey knocked 36 men unconscious. Your supposition that his real HW firepower is not genuine '/unfounded is not supported by the opinion of any boxing Historian that I have read in over half a century .Dempsey knocked 36 men spark out.

 

I am sorry but Dempsey is a lot more proven against big heavyweights than Frazier.

Sam Langford, when asked how Harry Wills (whom he fought 18 times in his career) would do against Jack Dempsey, said in the June 5, 1922, Atlanta Constitution "Well if he ever fights Dempsey my money will be on the present champion. Dempsey is the greatest fighter I have ever seen.

Understand Langford is considered perhaps the greatest pfp fighter in boxing history.

 

Gene Tunney was 2nd only to Muhammad Ali in terms of scientific boxing and lost only one fight 66-1 in his entire career. Tunney sat ringside watching the fantastic fight between Larry Holmes vs Ken Norton in 1978 just months before he passed away and said,"Jack Dempsey would have licked both of them, Dempsey was the greatest fighter who ever lived".

Ray Arcel, was one of the greatest trainers in boxing history, he worked with 18 world champions including Barney Ross, Tony Zale, Ezzard Charles, Roberto Duran, and Larry Holmes. He was in the opposite corner from Joe Louis in 14 of his fights, and he also personally knew and learned from the great Benny Leonard. Arcel has stated that he considered Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis and Jack Dempsey to be the three greatest heavyweights in history and hedged on picking between them, but here is what he said about Dempsey, He should been the only heavyweight anybody ever thought of when they thought about the greatest heavyweight champion. I mean he had everything. He could punch, he could box. He was mean and determined he was the best.

 

Klompton is extremely critical on Dempsey and he has ever right to be as the man stopped being a fighter in 1921 and did not fight the top two opponents of his day, Greb and Wills .. I give Jack an incomplete .. I believe he had the goods to be one of our top all time pound for pound heavyweights (if not H2H) but he simply never continued to develop. To me he proved more in his losses to a prime Tunney and the Sharkey fight than in any victory .. in my eyes he had the speed, two handed power, chin, heart and grit to have been a heavyweight Duran or Paq but putting aside the media myth making of the time he never earned it in the ring ..

All that being said Frazier was a fully vetted fighter, murderously tough and ridiculously under rated by many today .. without question one of the top five pound for pound heavyweights ever ... Carpentier would not last long ...

 

And that comment was made to juxtapose his supposedly better firepower against Fraziers as somehow proof he would fair better against georges and joe when in reality, not fantasy, joe was a far more proven commodity at hw and beat opposition that was light years better than anyone dempsey fought.

 

Not one of those big heavies Dempsey beat could hold a candle to even Mathis.
