I think Joe Frazier in his prime has no real problem with Cooney. I envision a fight similiar to Smokin' Joe's fight with Manuel Ramos. Ramos was a tall rangy heavyweight with a good punch and decent skills. It was a war in the 1st round with Ramos hurting Joe with a strong uppercut. In the 2nd round though, Joe stepped up the pressure and stopped Ramos. I don't think Cooney was any better than Ramos.
Cooney never had the tools from the outside to keep Frazier at bay, like a solid busy jab and movement. Even Ali struggled to keep Frazier off him enough to become effective during stages of their fights. While Cooney had the height and reach over Frazier, he was never the type to keep things at long range. Frazier KO7.
Smoking Joe in the 6rd Joe's a Lil busted up from cooney hooks and long or Right bombs but Joe loves the hard wars Joe finally gets cooney on the robs mid 6rd Joe's punishing the body cooney Misses the upper, boom the left hook from hell catches cooney jaw vicious knockout
Everyone knows that 99 out of 101 thread responders truly believe that Cooney of the second minute of the fourth round of the Holmes fight would KO any Heavyweight Champion in history early, including Holmes of the Holmes fight
How do you know Joe would win? Frazier has never defeated a power puncher and the fighters that gave Cooney problems were elusive fighters or long jabbers like Holmes when Cooney was at his own peak.
LOL, Cooney only ever fought one top ten fighter in his first career!!!! How would anyone know who troubles him, we didn't see him against the top fighters to know. Classic stuff as usual. He's certainly never beat anyone remotely as good as Joe. Sure he'd have a chance, a big hitting fast starter against a slower starter but lets not pretend Gerry has any scalps anything like Joe.
