Joe Frazier would score early round stoppages against all three fighters mentioned. Jack Johnson won't last long and neither will Langford. Wills may be the only fighter who has a chance of giving Frazier a good fight but like I said, he beats all of them.

Why do you think Wills has the best chance? I pretty much presumed Langford would be the best bet.

Langford was an unbelievably good technician and a very tough guy from what newspaper reports say of him. But he also sounds like the type of fighter that Frazier ate up most of the time. It's no secret that he was a very small fighter even by the standards of early century heavyweights and he fought a boxer's style that I think might have played into the hands of a fighter such as Frazier. Wills was big, strong and awkward and could crack to. This type of fighter might give Frazier more trouble.

    1. You dont think Fraziers size/strength advantage is a factor?

    2. He looked pretty damn destructive against Ellis/Foster and he looked to hurt Chuvalo for me. And came the nearest to KO'ing Ali for years. Maybe not Foreman power but the amount of quality power punches he throws precisely is something to behold.

    3. I said he wasnt a huge puncher, I believe Frazier to be the bigger punch but ofcourse without adequate film of McVea its impossible to judge.

    4. I believe I called them garbage men initially, simply that they were the types to need part time jobs, like some top10 opponents Roy Jones faced, they werent elite fighters and needed part time jobs too.

Screw Harry Wills............ He was prolly very good in the 1920s, but where are all the films to examine and review? Everybody whoever saw Wills fight is dead....... All we got going here are the stories that have lingered over the yrs.............

At least we have quite a few Jack Johnson crude but remastered fight films that can actually gives us an idea or clue as to what the hell he was all about.......

I've also seen some crude but kool Sammy Langford footage, yet, not nearly enough to satisfy my needs for full judgement on Langford........

I'm certain he has a size advantage!

Great punchign performances, but nothing like as awesomw as Foreman's power.

Incidently 1 of the biggest loads of **** I've ever seen, makes Rocky look like a documentary (ok I'm dramatising), I was looking forward to watching it aswell after missing out on it for years. Million dollar baby was ******ed too, no on in their right mind puts the stool in the ring before the bell. I liked the Braddock movie but the portrayal of Baer was shameful. Holywood just isnt big on accurate portrayals at the end of the day

I agree but it is an iconic film.

Even non boxing fans know about it.

If you accept that Johnson and Langford were good then you must accept that Wills was good.

Nigel Benn/Dempsey - they would be some quality boxing movies. Would be better to see movies that showed the growth of the character, what made him the man he was, hardships and such, instead of Fighter A is a hero, here are his big fights on the way

The Hurricane movie was quality, but supposedly for of bull**** too

Shame you could never weave a Benn/Eubank/Watson movie because that would be absolutley epic. As it is i'd like to see the Watson movie most of all.

    Janitor,

I do....... But I also have seen much more of Johnson and Sammy Lang. on film than I ever have of Wills............ All Wills does for me is come from a book and tales passed down from generation to generation.......

I accept that Langford was about the greatest ever and amongst the others mentioned here was fighting over his weight, thus some of the apparently subpar performances. Johnson was great, though not to the extent that seems de riguer with the boxing canonists. Wills was near great, and unfortunately deprived of the chances to go beyond this status. McVey seems merely decent from first hand accounts I have read.

I am also very intrigued by the life and death of George Godfrey as well....... Godfrey was notable, but also lazy, erratic and somewhat misguided......... Still, judging by his photos, he had some tools and ability..... I wish I knew more about him.......
