Frazier beat a guy named Ali. Toney struggled with a guy names Peter. If you require more argument than that you are missing a bit of objectivity.
That's not an easy one tbh, if we are going to say Middle/Super Middle are his natural divisions then I would say Frazier arguably did better at heavyweight than Toney did in those 2 divisions.
I didn't look over any of the predictions, but if anybody picked Toney they should be banned for being borderline ******ed. This is an epic mismatch. Frazier would have destroyed Toney. Toney has absolutely nothing to make Frazier respect him. Joe would walk through him, and take him out brutally.
I agree actually. I rate Frazier as the better fighter p4p. He also has the right style to give Toney fits. Compounded with that he's the bigger man.
Toney would find his openings, and his head movement, and counter right would puzzle Joe over the first ten rounds, but during that time Frazier would also be investing into Toney's body. A prime Frazier stops Toney late in an entertaining fight. Like JT1 said it would be a stoppage brought by exhaustion, and accumulation. It would be brutal....
Jirov was a tall, swarming, southpaw with bottomless cardio. Which is what most people would call a nightmare match-up for Toney, was nothing short of sublime. He fought beautifully. He fought efficently, and when the biggest moment of his career came, he responded like a champion after having a thousand punches thrown at him. People bring up Tiberi and Thazdi all they want, these are the same people that bring up Duran's "No Mas" moment. But saying Toney can't deal with a pressure fighter is like saying Duran can't deal with a slick boxer. When they were on, there were none better. But in terms of Joe Frazier vs Toney. Frazier isn't winning solely based on pressure. He wins because his under rated defense allows him to land just a few more punches a round. Nothing more, nothing less.
Toney liked to fight 90 seconds a round. Frazier fought from the second the stool was pulled till the echo of the bell. No rest and nowhere to go for Toney and his cast-in-stone feet.
