It can occur but not likely in my opinion. It is difficult to penetrate Toney's body, with his arms wrapped around it. He took some big body shots from Jirov too. Work ethic yes, Frazier may very well outwork him.
If he could take (cruiserweight) Jirov's big bodyshots Frazier would never worry him downstairs then.
Ali is not protecting his body well.James keeps his hands wrapped aroound his sides.Difficult to penetrate
Frazier wouldn't give Toney the time to let him figure it out, there'd only be time to fight. Frazier's ability and skill going forward is so impressive, just as impressive as Toney's defensive skills, but Toney doesn't boast the leg movement or offensive arsonal to keep Frazier off him for 12/15 rounds. I appreciate Toney's counter punching while working in the pocket is exceptional, but he's fighting a guy that took 2/3 pumches to get one off against an equally cute and more powerful puncher in Ali. Toney's roidz could be the great equaliser though.
Are you saying Frazier, a Top 10 ATG heavyweight (full blown heavy) with ko power in his left hand, one of the most vaunted body attacks in heavyweight history and endless stamina and workrate would be more difficult to deal with than cruiser Jirov?
I know it's bold but I think I am going there. And despite what some might say, Frazier had an excellent right to the body, a real crusher.
That's correct. And if you want to be technical about it---it was probably the most accurate punch thrown by any heavyweight. Joe didn't miss with that punch, did he? When did Joe catch air throwing that right hand to the body anyway? Everyone just looks at right hands upstairs and subtract the effectiveness of Frazier because he rarely went upstairs with that punch. And just how many heavies like eating 20 or 25 body punches a round?
Not catch air, man. James catches body punches on his arms and then counters to the head, clean. Ali took body punishmemnt with astonishing resistence. Difference in styles. It is more that Frazier's workrate, strength and relentness will be too much for James to overcome who is not a true heavyweight. Now, you guys can argue all you want that Joe Frazier will stop him, but you don't know that. This is a guy who has never been stopped or close to being stopped in over 90 fights.
