Ive read the first heavyweight champ he saw was Johnson.
Fleischer did not graduate until 1908.

He would have been 11 at the McGovern fight wouldn't he?

Jefferies wins in my opinion, he was a incredible athlete and as tough as teak, it would be a fight i would definitely pay to have seen, and i do not think either would have to go looking for his opponent.

Haha this fight would not be even Fair, frazier would humiliate badly the overrated jurassic guy, WHO had the false fame OF having iron chin just because he FACED super mws, cans and his career was shorter than a debut

Mentioning the Bonavena (1st Fight) as a Deteriment to Frazier's chances is not i feel too Valid, Oscar could not Drop Frazier second time around, and this Frazier still improved immencely on the way to his Prime 8th March 71 Effort,
by the same Token i could of beaten Usain Bolt over 100... If i was 26 and he was 15 ! Didnt Little Tom Sharkey prove a Big Handful for Big Jeff, ?

When i recall Joe Slipping a lot of the still fast Ali Shots, Even Hands Down Taunting Ali's Missing at one point, i have little Doubt that the Jinking Bobbing weaving Joe will not Prove an easy Target for Jeff, who has never been written up for his Handspeed, And Like a Rhino battering his way out of the Bush Jeff will have to try to cover these Rolling Thunder Movements.. Whilst taking Joe's shots coming out of Crouch, Of Course Jeff has Chances if it comes down to a battle of attrition between two Bulldozers, But i think you are talking about Guys like Stander, Cobb or Schutte...And Chuvalo... Joe at his peak had much more "Inside Art" to his industry...

Joe showed on the way up against gouys like Mando Ramos (not comparing him with Jeff for Talent of Course !) that he could get his Shots on target against Tall Opponents when needs be and Construct a sound Demolition, I cant help but feel that it would be like a Big Strong Bull coming up against a swarm of Bees... Stinging like a Bee... Nah, Stinging Like a Philly Trip-Hammer.. Give me Smoking Joe on this one.. Could be it would become one-sided and repetitive with a merciful Ref coming to Jeff rescue Circa 9th... Two Different Operating speeds at work here i'm afraid

    Area,

Look what Oscar did when he landed. Unless Frazier's chin somehow improved in the next fight, he's in trouble when Jeffries hits him. Jeffries certainly hit harder and was more athletic than Bonavena. Frazier was not hard to find or predict.

Frazier's chin was an issue at the amateur level if you want the facts. He was almost out in a New Jersey match vs. someone decent, and if memory serves down in the Tokyo Olympics.

Sharkey was an iron man type. Jeffries floored and hurt him in both fights. Once Jeffries was green, the other time fighting with a bad arm injury which happened in round two when he floored Sharkey.

I agree with the Frazier backers here. If Jeffries is gonna win than he better plan on fighting at a much busier pace than he was accustomed to fighting in his day. No pawing with the gloves while waiting for a big shot. Frazier's gonna be in his chest winging non stop with both hands ( Joe wasn't just a left hooker) and he'll be able to duck slip and roll an occasional punch coming his way. He was able to make Ali miss more often than everyone thought he could in the FOTC and Ali threw much faster punches than Jeff did and more frequently as well. Jeffries isn't stopping Frazier with 1 or 2 shots. Foreman landed bomb after bomb on Joe and Joe kept getting up and trying. I think a better matchup for Jeffries would be a slower fighter like Chuvalo. It would be a slower paced fight which could play into Jeff's hands. I think he wpould have a harder time with a very busy Frazier..once Joe gets warmed up anyway.

Jefferies fought at his pace and he won, why would he have changed, he absorbed the best that his opponent had to offer, accepted the cuts and busted up face then administered the 'coup de grace'.

Jefferies was a superb athlete if the reported athletic feats recorded are correct, then he had ability to be damned quick.

Bonavena also hit hard enough to floor George Chuvalo, so perhaps the man could punch a little.

What technical advances do you feel that joe Frazier brings to the table relative to fighters of the past?

The swarmer is the one style that has remained pretty much unchanged, throughout the gloved era.

Yeah, I see a lot of similarities between Tom Sharkey and Joe Frazier.
