This would be Young from the 1st Lyle fight and Frazier from between the Quarry rematch and Ellis rematch.
    Who wins this matchup?

I think Frazier has more than enough to beat any mover. Frazier post Manilla was shot as hell but pre Manilla? I don't think Young can keep him off him. I think Young wins the first few rounds but Frazier starts landing more and more, Young goes full on defensive and survives, and Frazier outlands him by a big margin to win a competitive but clear decision.

There is no version of Jimmy Young ... the love for him on this forum truly, sincerely astounds me ... that has anything for any version of Joe Frazier except the one that fought Jumbo Cummings.

Bad style match up for Young. Frazier by mid-rounds KO.

Frazier pummells Young an elite ATG swarmer is a poison style for a defensive boxer with mediocre power.

    Frazier late stoppage.

I see Jimmy neutralizing and surviving enough to lose a decision but he doesn’t bank many rounds and gets a terrific hiding to the body f rom Joe, who walks away with a near-shutout.

Jimmy wants a headhunter to do his finest work. Then he gets to play his game on the outside with feints and minimal action.

Joe Frazier used him as a sparring partner and that is how Jimmy got his name and respect prior to the first Lyle fight.

    Too much heat for Jimmy.

KO and general battering by round 8.

Jimmy Young. Fraziers got a way better chance in a 10 rounder.

Jimmy Young survived Foreman and Lyle. But he couldn't take punches from Frazier and Tyson?? What?

Much more aggressive style from Frazier and Tyson. They were almost always rampaging forward...

It's not about taking punches it's the styles.

Tyson, Frazier, would be swarming all over Young who wouldn't have any room or power to keep the relentless Tyson, Frazier, off him.

Swarmers are bad style match ups for boxers unless they have real concussive power to stop the swarmer in their tracks and stop their forward momentum which Young doesn't have.

You're a good guy but some of your opinions are baffling to me Young was a good fighter and I've recently defended him in the Foreman thread.

But he's not anywhere close on the pedestal that you put him on. And there's no logical reason stylistically he should be favoured against ATG swarmer/pressure fighters like Frazier or Tyson.
