One of the mistakes that Ali made against Frazier was putting his hands up and sitting on the back of his own heels. This posture allows Frazier a chance to tee off at times. Taller fighters should put their weight on the shoulders of shorter fighters when they have their forearms up blocking punches. This keeps the shorter fighter from getting as much force into a shot, because they are forced to move the weight of their opponents. Riddick Bowe would not make this mistake. This fight would be very entertaining. You would have a smaller, slightly more active, fighter trying to chop down his much larger foe. Bowe would land the heavier blows, and win the majority of the rounds on the way to a decision victory. Frazier would keep the fight interesting by doing a lot, a loosing the round by smallest of margins.
This is a very hard match-up to call. Do we judge on consistency level or 'best night'? Frazier wins the former and Bowe maybe the latter. Which is something Eddie Futch said in his subtle, not discrediting either fighter kinda way.
Riddick Bowe did have the tools to beat Joe Frazier. Point is, he did not always put them to the best of use. He would out-jab Joe for a couple of rounds but really did not have the supreme power of George Foreman to put away Joe for good. Come the third round Joe would start smokin'. Considering his physique and speed, Bowe could be surprisingly easy to hit at times. From about the third round on, both guys would have their moments. Ultimately, it may all boil down to who had the greater resolve. Here, I feel that Frazier would turn out to be the handsome winner. Joe Frazier by decision.
you guys have to be kidding. Joe is much the smaller of the two. This is another Dempsey-Carpentier type matchup.
I think Joe fairs well against alot of ATG's....Liston and Foreman are hard for me to envision wins....holmes, lewis and Bowe cause me concerns as well. As has been said Bowe could win this fight...and if it is a prime vs prime version I would have trouble picking (betting on) Joe...sure he could win, but I am not overly confident...Call it similar (not in styles, but in outcome) to the Frazier Ali..and bowe holyfield...Bowe in 2 out of 3
I think that Frazier would win and I dont believe that it would be as competitive as most people here seem to think. Their trainer (Eddie Futch) thought so as well.
i think that frazier would win, he had too heart , too stamina and he was too strong late, bowe was just a big guy compared with joe frazier, joe would show bowe who is the boss. frazier would pressure during all the fight, joe by ud or tale tko
Frazier would make Bowe fight on the back foot and Riddick's defence was very poor in the mid rounds Joe would be landing at will eventually stopping Bowe late.
If its peek Bowe then i can see him winning. I just dont know if he exists in anything buy the Holfield fights.
