I feel Riddick may have had the style to grab this one, if we're talking Holyfield I Bowe. Any other Bowe, probably wins the early rounds, maybe even the middle rounds, but doesn't have the conditioning to get through the fight, and Frazier wears him down. If Bowe did the work in the gym, and had enough gas to last the distance, I struggle to see Frazier stopping him(Unless Bowe is gassed, his chin is amongst the very best.) and with Bowe's combination punching and jab, I fail to see Frazier winning enough of 12 rounds, and POSSIBLY, failing to win more than 6 or 7 over 15. I dislike Riddick and love Joe, my father worked with Joe, but with both fighters at their very best, I feel Riddick may be too much for Frazier stylistically, the lazy, overrated, punk *******.
Bowe fought Holyfield in a fight that was just a grueling as any fight Joe put anybody through over 12, and was fine at the end. Talking over 15 is pure speculation, as Bowe's era didn't fight 15 rounders, but we do know that a peak, well conditioned Bowe can last 12 rounds under high pressure, maintaining a high workrate, and getting hit often and solidly. He proved it in the first Holyfield fight that over 12, he wouldn't gas. Over 15? We've got no idea. Frazier won that distance only twice. Both Ali and Bonavena gave him trouble, and Ali would have won the FOTC over a 12 round distance. I felt Frazier really seperated himself from Oscar over the championship distance. I'm willing to concede 15 rounds as up in the air, but absolutely feel a peak Bowe wins a tight one over 12. Joe wouldn't have been as great a fighter had he not lived in an era of the true distance.
what the hell are you talking? joe frazier is one of the hw with more stamina in the history, he would pressure bowe during all the fight, holyfield was not frazier 12 rounds are not 15 rounds, and frazier did perfectly 15 rounds against ali... frazier was armstrong in the hw. you love frazier?:rofl:rofl hypocrite
I agree with you, but Frazier was a locomotive picking up steam. He simply didnt pressure you in the first like he did in the 15th. My father said the same was true in sparring with Joe: Futch would rotate partners, and every guy wanted to be the first in, cause then you could handle Joe and not get beat up; The last 5 guys would take butt whippings. Frazier over 15 is one of the more formidable uphill contests in heavyweight history. If you've got a 15 round distance, and you can't get Frazier out of there early? Its a long night. That said, Frazier needed 15 to be Frazier. Those championship rounds are when he beat the tar out of Ali, and overcame Bonavena. Over 12, he's just not as dangerous: His pressure takes time to work. Over 12, Bowe beats Frazier. Frazier didn't have enough time to wear him down, especially considering the size difference. Over 15, we just can't know, having never seen Bowe go that distance.
frazier was frazier in 15 or 5. the size is not matter, bowe weighed 225-230 in 6´5 against cooper,seldon... frazier weighed 217 1/2 in 5´11 against stander and he was very good in this fight. frazier did beat mathis who weighed 245. i can see prime frazier winning (12 or 15 rounds)
Fair enough. I can see Frazier winning over 15, too. I can't over 12. I think he runs out of time to catch up on points, and Bowe was almost impossible to stop over twelve. Frazier needs time to build steam. The proof is in his fights against the best. When he wasn't blown out early, he picked up the pace round after rounded and ground opponents out. I would sure root for Joe, though. Bowe was an amateur rival of mine, and I hate the guy as a person. Joe worked with my Dad sometimes, and was always very nice to me as a child. I'd want to see Smoke take his head off.
but he never faced joe frazier really? you are very lucky. did bowe knock you out? not sarcasm.... i am serious
Bowe didn't stop me. Couldn't. I had a jaw on me. WE fought twice. First one was great and went my way, when we were boys. The second, during the Olympic qualifying race. He beat me handily.
