Yeah Joe decided to carry Bugner, he liked being wobbled himself.

Mathis's best win was over an unranked Chuvalo .Mathis was not ranked when he fought Frazier neither was he as good a puncher ,either at long range or inside. Bad comparison.imo

    True.
He really let Bugner off the hook there. He really waited a good couple of seconds to watch Bugner go down, he was quite within his rights - and poised - to land two or three more punches.
It was a bit weird seeing Frazier do that.

He was careful not to get disqualified, that's the only reason he didn't throw more punches in that situation. He did try to finish Bugner during the remaining time of the round, but nearly got knocked down himself (one of his knees almost touched the canvas after a punch he received).

I can't pick a winner for this fight.
The two most under-rated and unfairly maligned modern HWs on this forum.
    They were both terrific warriors.
Frazier was a credit to the sport. A true gladiator, and honest worker.
Bowe was a bit of a hooligan at times but no one should question his heart and toughness. He proved himself in the 3 Holyfield fights, and went well beyond the call of duty in the Golota fights.

Frazier v Bowe would be an incredible fight.

He was probably over-cautious. He couldn't have been DQ'd for landing punches while Bugner was on his feet still, but yeah thay might have been his concern. Nevermind the reason.

I think the point made was that he let Bugner go. It would be wrong to insist "he couldn't even stop Bugner" when it looks like he actually probably could have.

Joe was an American, in London, fighting a fighter residing in that city. Bugner looked like he would drop any second (not completely, but till his knee touches the canvas), while Frazier is throwing punches at him, and the referee could have favored local fighter in that situation and disqualified Joe.

Yeah, that might explain why Frazier let him off then.

We are picking prime for prime. I pick the Bowe that twice beat Holyfield who would give Frazier hell.
If you want to change the goal posts fine, I'll have the Frazier that Foreman beat the **** out of.

No, I didn't mean pitting the Bowe of Golota I and II against FOTC Joe.

The underlined statement stands apart from the thread topic and was more general in nature, having no bearing on the location of the goal posts here. :good
