The very best version of Bowe possible? I would have to go with Bowe here. Joe needs a better jab than what he had to be successful and Riddick just had to many tools inside and outside imo. A hard one to analyze.
No he had a clear shot at Bugner as he was frozen on the ropes. He just let him slowly melt to the canvas. Had Joe drilled him with another hook Bugner would have never gotten up and continued. It was a sign to me that Frazier wasn`t the fighter he once had been. Still good though.
I guess you have`nt seen that fight with Bugner. There is no dispute. Joe could have drilled him a couple of time while he was frozen in the corner. No point in arguing something that obvious. Then again if were going to base the matchup on `73 Frazier then we should remember he wasn`t the same fighter he was in the late 60s early `70s. Remember Bowe getting bounced all over the ring by Golota?
His manager did. I believe Bowe probably had some fear of Lewis but he would`ve fought him at they gone right after the Holyfield fights. Bowe beats him if they fight right then. Anytime after `95 Lewis messes him up badly.
So now Bowe is remembered as the guy who ducked Lewis, split the titles and ate himself out of the Hall of Fame. Its sad. He had a world of ability and Eddie Futch polished gem with him.
Bugner looked like he'd drop any moment, possibly including when Joe throws a punch or two as a follow up, and this would give the referee a reason to disqualify Frazier. Watch the film again.
Its legal to follow hit a fighter as he is going down as long as he`s not down. I understand what your saying though its a bit of a reach.

Well, it seems Max_Power has disappeared. It wasn't very well disguised trolling, was it? :verysad The pro-modernity agenda was a bit too ham-handed to be misconstrued as sincere. ...not that I'm suggesting anyone picking Bowe in this match-up is trolling or promoting an anti-antiquarian agenda or pulling a straw-man version of one. (just in M_P's case, he obviously was... :yep)
Sometimes referees disqualify fighters for hitting home favorites with perfectly legal punches. Sure, Frazier had an explanation that he didn't want to kill Bugner, didn't want his mom to think of him being cruel, but he did try to finish Bugner during the remaining time of the round, and he's not known for letting people off the hook, so that I don't think his explanation is true.
Frazier takes it over late, breaks him down to the body and up top, wins a decision over 15. It'd be a hellacious fight for sure, I just think Frazier thrives more in those circumstances and that Bowe would be ripe for the picking in the late rounds.
