Layoff? Morrison stopped Ruddock less than 4 months before he fought Lewis.

 

But he was past prime, he was not the Morrison that beat Foreman and was washed fighter, lost by 1st round against Bentt.

Morrison was washed up he had HIV against Lewis. He looked horrible in that fight and it wasn’t because of Lewis. Lewis’s resume is strong enough to not have to give big accolades for beating Morrison. Lewis and the referee were both sent to be tested for HIV, after Morrison popped in his very next scheduled bout against Arthur Weathers. The testing used back in 1995 would only show HIV if it were in your system for 3 months or more meaning Tommy was infected at least as early as the Lewis bout. Only 3 states tested for HIV back then and Morrison was able to skirt around it until he was hoping to land a Tyson fight by fighting for King. Tommy was doing drugs drinking and sleeping with hookers he looked slow bloated and disinterested in the Lewis bout.

The "prime" Morrison that you're talking about is the same one that was getting schooled by Yuri Vaulin and Carl Williams ahead of the KOs, rocked hard by Mercer after he gassed out, got his jaw and hand broken against Joe Hipp, ran from Foreman to get a decision, got sparked out against Michael Bentt, and chose to grow a beard. That's without mentioning the robbery draw against Purity.

Morrison was 227lbs the same as he had weighed in his previous fight against Ruddock and lighter than he had been for 2 of his fights that year.

 

Tommy’s weight was consistent for majority of his career. He still looked bloated and was exhausted quite quickly and had HIV. He looked terrible against Lewis and he really didn’t look all that good against Ruddock whom was faded himself. Most say Morrison began a bad spiral of alcohol and drugs post the upset by Bentt. Who knows. Mercer and Bentt both already exposed Tommy’s limitations and judging by the eye test he looked much sharper against Foreman than he did post Bentt.
