Ive been pretty big on Liston lately, never used to rate him much. Everything he throws has monstrous power and causes damage wherever it hits you. A swarmer would have to get by his freakishly long jab first in order to get inside..but that is a terrible idea. This is the worst possible match for Joe Frazier.
Good fight. I don't know about Liston taking him out like Foreman did. Foreman was much more imposing and psychical then Liston was, comparing them prime for prime. Liston was more of a pugilist technician type that would use his jab more. I feel Joe might break him down late with the body attack if he survives the early rounds. It depends if Liston can hit him flush early. Or how fast Frazier comes out.
Have some respect. The man just passed away, this is a time for remembering why Joe Frazier was great. We can't be matching him up with Sonny Liston for at least three weeks.
I won't cast an opinion but I have heard from two sources who were around and connected at the time that the Frazier camp was specifically avoiding Liston. I take this with a grain of salt but at least one of these sources was really in the know.
Liston of '60 KO's Frazier of '70 inside 7 wicked rds..... Styles make results..... Frazier gets caught smoking by Liston...... MR.BILL
people always mention liston would do what foreman did i just dont see it and i dont think liston has the workrate and desire to match frazier in his prime frazier wins
Well said,Manassa. As I said,on an earlier thread,it's virtually impossible for us to be objective about Frazier match ups at this moment in time.
