Joe Frazier is my favourite heavyweight but I do admit not the best he's not even in my top 5 heavyweights who in chronological order I have as Jack Johnson Joe Louis Cassius Clay/Ali Larry Holmes Lennox Lewis However I would have been interested if he had ever got matched with Sonny Liston I could imagine Frazier getting in close bobbing weaving and slipping anything Liston threw at him and work the body with his left hook and wear him down. Liston if he pushed forward and landed his Jab hard Frazier's in trouble.
That's an interesting point as George Foreman was Sonny Liston's understudy in his early career in all probably it could have gone the same way as Foreman Vs Frazier? However Liston wasn't as tall as Foreman and that could have been to Frazier's advantage.
I will say this for Frazier he would come to fight and would not be imitated. I think he gets KO inside of 3 rounds though
Liston had the best uppercut in boxing history and our man Joe was a complete sucker for them this ends badly for Joe
Based on what do we say Frazier gets diced up? Because Liston knocked out Teacup Williams? Or a tiny HW who Ingo beat? I respect and admire Patterson but he was what he was. Frazier hangs in there and stops the overrated leg breaker. Probably.
Foreman showed a 215lb heavyweight with immense strength and huge power could demolish Frazier ..and Liston was that. Take into consideration Frazier always struggled with big uppercuts even in his prime, and liston had one of if not the best uppercut in heavyweight history which he threw short and long and deadly. You make fun of his opposition yet Liston destroyed his way through an entire era filled with good fighters and he flattened a hall of Famer twice in 1 round. Frazier excelled against slick boxers without a big punch but against big strong bangers he was in deep trouble. And yank Durham kept him away from them for a reason .
My two favorite fighters. Liston takes this in a mid-round TKO. Frazier, brave to the end will never give up forcing the ref to step in.
