I contend that Ali punched harder, or at least more effectively, than Morrison. He stopped Foreman, Liston, Lyle, Quarry, Bonavena, etc. And Frazier beat him. The Ruddock that Morrison beat was entirely washed up and still Tommy needed help from Lipton to get the W because he simply could not put away Ruddock. I'll believe Morrison was dangerous at the elite level when I read of him stopping someone better than Joe Hipp.
Look at Ruddock for example he doesn't have really any upper echelon wins but no one discredits his power in regards to the eye test. Morrison was fast, explosive, good power, good combination puncher. His downfalls were his suspect chin/stamina which would probably be his downfall vs Frazier. Ali punched harder than Morrison ? don't agree. Punched more effectively ? yeah i'd agreed but Ali is an outboxer and Frazier excelled vs boxer types. Frazier had more issues vs brawler types and he's not really proven against big punching KO artists as he didn't fight the likes of Shavers, M.Foster, Lyle, etc. Obviously Frazier is a big favourite but he could have some scares along the way before getting the victory.
Tommy was a fragile robot with a thimble for a gas tank who never KO'd anyone half decent outside of Joe Hipp. Every time he rose up he got hammered down, until he found the disabled old ex-champ with concrete feet who he could simply turn tail on and run away. Not sure I would favor Tommy over Bob Foster. Sure wouldn't favor him over Jerry Quarry.
It may be a bad style matchup for Joe Frazier, but there are levels to consider in this particular fantasy fight. Tommy Morrison had power and could knock Joe down, but, even if he did, I do not see him keeping Frazier down. I will go with Joe Frazier by stoppage.
Not many. I know some people here love Morrison to death but IMO he’s way ahead of his skis against Frazier and gets brutally and savagely beaten, maybe as quickly as Bob Foster.
