Excellent display of facts and I am not surprised that a lot of ESB posters are either ignorant of the 50's and the experience and talent of JJWalcott or simply biased ....Today when we see a Bernard Hopkins at 44 shutout a guy that looked dominant like Kelly Pavlik or Antonio Tarver we can look back to guy like JJWalcott who was a Heavyweight Hopkins with 2 fisted power.

I figured you would know where stupid-land is, its your hometown

...every fighter has an excuse thing is Lyle was dominated by 6"ft 196lb Jerry Quarry and the Ref could have stopped Lyle -Foreman in Lyle's favor and I don't think there could be an argument. Lyle almost stopped Foreman and gave him hell. that's a fact

The 2 fighters to beat Foreman, Ali and Young but neither could hit like Walcott, all three were pinpoint punchers. Marciano beat a lot of quick and tricky people to the punch, very deceptive speed because he was an awkward rhythm breaker. Foreman would not be as successful vs a guy with 2-fisted power as Lyle showed

Well, John, if you and Bummy start trading stories about Rocky or any other of the greats, be sure to post them!

That line you accented from Bummy's post regarding the difficulty of hitting Rocky because of his rhythm breaking moves is beautifully verified by no less an ATG than Archie Moore. And thanks to dougie's recent thread "bits and pieces" we can read what Moore thought it was like to fight Rocky. You guys have probably already read this but it is post #101. Great article and pictures on the fight from Moore's point of view.

He in particular brings up Rocky's speed and rhythm making it nearly impossible to hit the guy. Not to speak of the way he described punches as like trying to hit thru a propeller. Reminded me of the way Greb was described.

Another thing which surprised me was Moore's emphasis on Rocky's left hook that kept coming and coming.

I'd appreciate it if any of you would like to comment to a greater extent on these things. Or pick up on any other remarks from Moore.

    Thanks.

  8. frazier would beat marciano, frazier woul dbe undefeated in the era of rocky. marciano would not be undefeated in the era of frazier. foreman would absolutely destroy rocky, ali would humiliate rocky, liston would smash rocky . foreman would **** any boxer of the era of marciano.
