    That's a ridiculous statement.
I made a point of saying " let's NOT go there"

It would probably be fair to aim it at me as well, my views on Big George are well known..LOL
Hence I tried not to stray there !
Inevitably when studying Joe's career the 2 subjects are eventually gonna meet .
    Cheers

Frazier became a houshold name and recieved a 5 million dollar purse which was phenomenol in the early 70's. Joe went on tour with his group getting paid very well but he had plenty of woman and partying. The Frazier of FOTC was a 26 fight guy who weighed in at 205lbs standing about 5'10 but was 216 for his next fight against Terry Daniels (who weighed 195) Daniels rocked Frazier but Terry went on to lose 26 of his next 33 fights, Frazier then weighed in at 218 for pudgy Ron Stander and was less than impressive, he trained down to 214 for his next fight against the 217 lb 37-0 (highly padded) Big 6'3 George Foreman and got up6 times in 2 rounds but was stopped. Frazier got in better shape for Joe Bugner at 208lbs dropped the 221lb 6'4 Bugner in the 10th to w ud 12, Frazier was 209 for the next Ali fight, 212 for Quarry but blew up to 216 for the Trilla fight with Ali 224 for Foreman 2 and 229 for his last fight a draw with Jumbo Cummings . Fraziers total record was 34-4-1

I think Frazier was great fighter but the Ali fight sudden fame took him out of his blue collar work ethic and after the FOTC lost his spark. His body no longer cut and muscled. He did come back better but never again hit the level of his 26th fight. Frazier type style requires Great conditioning (Tyson leading up to Spinks) and Marciano 49 fights. Hard to have that discipline when that kind of money enters your life

He would never have beaten Foreman, but he did beat prime Ali, imo. In the fotc both men were undefeated and under thirty. Ali of 1971 was stronger than the Ali of the 60s. He had to be: he wasn’t facing London, old Zora or literally shot Clevland Williams. Regarding Joe, his style was not conducive to ring longevity and getting slaughtered by Foreman had to affect him adversely, physically and mentally.

Hagler said it: It's hard to get up for a run at 5 am when you're sleeping in silk sheets.

Frazier was favourite because Foreman didn’t really have as much of a reputation going for him as guys Frazier had already beat. It was based on paper.

Ali had 18 rounds of experience since 1967. Frazier had 12 rounds of experience since 1968.

Ali had those 18 rounds packed into a five month period where Frazier had only done 2 rounds.

I think the FOTC was too soon for Ali,the Quarry fight was inconclusive and he looked pretty pedestrian against Oscar,a couple more fights under his belt to build up his legs and stamina and he wouldn't have been caught in those corners.imo

They fought in1971 ,conditioning doesn' t work like that, you need a slow steady build up. 18 rds in4 years won't cut it.

Can't agree with that, now if Frazier had fought Cassius Clay? Joe may still have won, maybe.

8 rounds from April 2004 until October 2008 Worked fine for Vitali Klitschko when he rewonthe title. Where was his build up? At least Ali was beating contenderswithin months of challenging Frazier.
