Did Liston ever went 15 rounds? Did Liston ever knocked someone in late rounds not stopping him? Liston didn't have bad stamina but it was not great, average it's the right answer.
But was not strong and powerful like Foreman, he doesn't cut ring better than Foreman who had bigger frame and was a bigger man. Also Foreman had better heart and better infighting, like Jack Johnson. Foreman was also much more agressive and even faster starter than Liston. Foreman is much worse style matchup for Frazier than Liston who would try to break Frazier down with combos.
Liston was plenty strong and powerful, and we have Foreman's testimony to confirm that .Liston was a very good infighter,I don't know where you get your opinions from!
Prime FOTC Frazier vs prime 1957-60 Liston--have to go with Sonny. Sonny's sledgehammer jab would keep Joe from applying his usual pressure and eventually Liston would land power shots with his 11 inch plus reach advantage. Too much for Frazier to overcome.
I genuinely can't conceive Formeman being considered a better boxer than Liston. I guess we are back to 'his wins are better' and yes, that I'd grant. Beating Frazier and Norton in the manner he did are better wins than Sonny ever had, but they only prove one thing, that he was very good at beating Frazier and Norton!! Liston had a much better toolbox, he was athletic, measured, hit hard, no make that HARD and had that measured malevolence that Foreman perhaps lacked. Foreman was quite wild, Liston more methodical. I love Frazier, maybe one of my top five fighters to watch, but I see Sonny methodically and brutally dismantling him in a more clinical and more conclusive way than George did. I think Liston has the style to and power to keep Joe down.
He was strong and powerful, but Foreman was stronger man and harder puncher, he lifted 210-220 pounds Frazier from the ground and Liston couldn't do that even with Patterson. Liston was not good infighter more like mid range and long range fighter, but infighting was his weakness because his built, longer hands that were not good for close fighting.
Machen fought to survive. 2nd fight . Marshall was down 4 times; for a 9-count at the end of round 5, and three times in round six. 3rd fight. Liston had Marshall on the verge of a knockout on several occasions, but the safety-minded Detroit fighter found a way to survive.Liston won every round. Liston was an old man against Martin, but he still dropped him. The ability to cut off the ring in a fight between Liston and Frazier is irrelevant.Frazier would be coming into Liston as long as the fight lasted,he did not know any other way to fight!
Are you implying that Sonny Liston couldn't hit hard now? Is that what your saying.? Like Tyson going the distance with Tillis,Green,Smith, Tucker proved he couldn't hit....
I'm impplying that he couldn't carry his power into later rounds, and you were the one that stated that he didn't need stamina and late power because he knocked everyone early but I proved you wrong.
