Joe Frazier would not have had a chance against Jim Jeffries...

As expected, this thread has devolved into a pro- and anti-Jeffries battle royale.

I agree with the main point of this thread: boxing is not primarily an "athleticism" sport. Technique, experience and an individual fighter's character play much larger roles in boxing than they do in just about any other sport. Joe Frazier wasn't an "athlete". He was a fighter.

So...the people arguing that Ali (or Klitschko, or whoever) might have been able to run/swim faster than Jeffries are completely missing the point. It would actually reinforce Janitor's point: Ali could probably also beat Frazier in most sports. Doesn't matter. Frazier beat Ali in boxing, and he probably would have beaten Klitschko too...unless Wlad used his superior "athleticism" to jump into a river and swim away.

Well, I'm a Jimmy Jeff ass-crack sniffer, so I know he was a bad mother as champ from 1899-1905, but if a prime-time Jeff was facing a 1971 Joe Frazier in a time machine, it would be a brutal war of attrition...

It all depends on who gets off first early on.... I think Jeff could hurt, stagger and stop Frazier early on if he nails his ass good and hard with some key punches... If he can't do it early, Frazier might warm up and get smokin' and get Jeff later on...

Who really knows? I like the match-up though....

Quite likely that his team beats LeBron based on how "King" James always crumbles under pressure. :yep

I agree here. Would argue the same for climbing though.

Good post. I think the outcome depends on the rules. Under Jeff´s with a fight to the finish I´d pick Jeffies. Under Frazier´s I pick Frazier by TKO in the mid/late rounds. I also think Frazie has a better chance of beating Jeffries nder his rules than the othe way around. I rank Jeff a bit higher though.
