Has anybody tried to emulate that style? I love watching Joe in the ring, when I was a kid I tried to do his moves His ducking, bobing, weaving and sliping is marvelous. His head, shoulders and left hand is always in motion, even in 15th round! But that style isn't for everybody, when I was sparring with a shorter guy, he caught me with a hook while I was doing that "Frazier thing" For me, the way Smokin' Joe fought is a immortal beauty.
its no wonder he didn't have the number of fights that other legends had. its got to get to your joints in the end. other shortish heavies such as patterson and marciano ended up with bad backs.you are bang on with fraziers style though,it was beautiful to watch
i found it easier against shorter lads when i was boxing ,but if they moved their heads a lot it made you dizzy from concentrating. what weight are you Gpater ?
Bert Cooper, who was trained by Frazier in Frazier's gym, is probably the closest. Sadly, Marvis Frazier tried to emulate his father at times, which didn't work out so well because Marvis' tools were all wrong for that style.
im between 54-57kgs about 8 3/4 stone im normally a defensive outfighter but have been working on being more aggresive which is working better so have been trying out different offenses. but ive kinda settled on a hagler like attack
Frazier bobbed and weaved in a way that was truly unique and effective because it caused his opponents to not be able to anticipate the hook. He also was much better defensively than givin credit for, he just didn't seem to mind getting hit. This took heart and fight out of most of his opponents, seeing how he just seemed to get stronger after taking hard punches.
Ever try and fight half bent over like Marciano or Frazier? Your back begins to hurt so bad it's unbelievable.
Frazier's incessant bobbing & weaving, shuffling, feinting technique is what made him such a special fighter at his peak. Without it he was still great, but just not uniquely great. It's amazing how he was able to keep that up all the way through 15 rounds. Personally, I've never seen another fighter since really emulate him. Before him, I think the only fighter I've seen with the same kind of style was Henry Armstrong - and even then, I think Frazier was more polished and fluid in his movements.
yep and he found the same success as Joe did vs. Foreman, although I do not think he went down with George. Bert used to fight at cruiserweight years and years ago.
