A coach has two jobs, prepare a fighter for a fight and then in the fight, but also ensure the saftey of the fighter. Joe miserably failed at both aspects of John Murrays fights, both of them. How can any boxer entrust their saftey under Joe ever again?
Strictly speaking thats the refs job, not the trainers because they can be too involved in the action emotionally.
It was interesting to hear even Fwank in the recent iFilmLondon interview criticising the lack of anything other than relentless pressure against Rios.
To do it once fine, but twice thats incomptence. He should have pulled John out of both fights and I am erally worried about the state of John in years to come and Joe Gallacher has to take some of the responsability of Murrays health in years to come. Those batterings were tough.
Still, its the refs job. Trainers do pull out fighters from bouts when they've had enough but the buck stops with the ref, not the trainer.
Did Gallcher really prepare John with the tatic, 'stick your head right then and let him throw bombs, eventually he will tire'?
He was going to pull Murray out of the fight if he didnt step it up and do something special in the 7th.
Think your very harsh on Joe,this was a 12 round world title fight and John had to be given every chance, the markings on johns face wouldnt have worried John im sure and Joe would know this. I hope John bounces back coz that was a good brave performance against Rios imo.
Iv been thinking this for a while and like Richard says he just looks like a fitness coach to me, what did he have Ste Smith doin! He was fighting like Murray where as we know he has very rounded am skills and good footwork. Same for Macklin. He should of put it in himself to pull John out off Rios fight like Futch done with Frazier. It looks to me that he's in for the money and his own fame not for the boxer.
Rios fight I agree, but the Mitchell fight? the round and half before has started getting hit flush time and time he was in control and looked like he was coming on strong and taking over the fight.
I take it your referring to Mitchell and Rios right ??? In the Mitchell fight he was stunned by a good shot in a fight he was starting take control of , he came in and Gallaghger done what any good coach does , he got his bearings together in the hope he'd recover and get out there fresh , or as fresh as he could be , he was then stopped bot not hurt too badly IMO Rios , was a different story , near the end of the fight he was taking some sickening shots but appeared to be ok , his face would tell a different tale and maybe Joe should of pulled him out at the end of 9 or 10 But thats his call , he knows his fighters better than anyone especially John Murray , he hasnt done a great deal / if anything wrong IMHO
i dont think it matters what game plan you give john murray he will resort to what he does after a round or two and that is stand there and bang its to ingrained in him
