Halfway through myself, Good interview. Talking very sensible about Quigg and what he wants for him. Like the vision it makes sense.. [yt]WfRt13iVYpI[/yt] I do feel the remarks about his style is unfair although i have posted stuff in the past i do feel Quigg and Crolla's recent displays show he's maybe learned the lessons. Young coach himself still and maybe fell into the trap of success and resting on laurels in terms of style of fighting. Trainers have done it in the past.
I think the criticisms he's been getting are unfair too. Alright maybe Crolla could do with changing it up a bit instead getting in to wars but all his fighters are entertaining to watch. That can't be disputed. Remember back in 2011 when he had some crazy record? Something like 40 or 50 straight fights his fighters went unbeaten, best run of any gym and trainer in the whole country. Even then, it only ended when Macklin got ripped off in Germany against Sturm. Good trainer is Joe Gallagher, very down to Earth and sensible bloke. Good guide for any young lads getting into the sport and is meant to be an expert tactician.
Im often unsure on JoeG in the short interviews but in the prolonged interviews he does I kind of warm to him, I remember the 25min interview about the whole john murray situation a while back and he came across very well. I am one of the ones who do say JoeG has one style. Hands up, move forward with no head movement. But credit where credits due his tactics against for quigg against munroe was spot on and if crollas fight had gone a few more rounds he would have won. He should have worked the body earlier. Judging the Groves/Smith fight over one round is a bit of a stretch. And did anyone else notice he said "understand" alot.
I like him a lot,a real boxing nut who works hard. But I don't like the way he blames his fighters in defeats for not listening to his instructions surely they should win together and lose together
Although it was a good record the highest percentage were against journeymen. With the talent in the gym joe really should have many champions, quigg looks good but I think crampon beats him and you couldn't put him in the ring with rigo. I like the look of Callum smith he's gonna be very good in a few years
I still worry with so many fighters whether he has time to work on the technical aspects and nuances to each of his fighters...
It was a great record. Obviously that's just your opinion that Frampton beats Quigg, but who has mentioned Quigg fighting Rigondeaux?
Yeah i agree. I feel Garcia and Roach have shown massive amounts of fighters are hard to manage and improve all of them. Some fighters need more contact time and Joe's marriage was strained due to amount of time in gym.
good interview. can see Joe G takes it all a bit to personally though. Need to just look beyond that. again its sad to see some of these fighters so inactive.
I was reading an old Boxing News and there was a piece on Gallagher when he first started training pros. I think his quotes were a bit ambivalent, like he will try out the pro game and if it doesnt work out he will go back to amateurs, as far as I recall. He has accumulated a gym full of top fighters, so the fighters must like his style and methods.
I think what they have created is a dressing room mentality at the gym, similar to what they have at football clubs. They all keep one another going, all seem to get along great. Only other gym with that many fighters is the TKO and thats with 5 different trainers.
I like Gallagher and I think he gets a lot of undeserved stick. When he was still posting on here, people were desperate to slag him off, just like they currently are for Arnie, Billy, Bellew or some of the others in boxing we have on here. It's a shame really, because even though Gallagher hasn't had a world champion yet, I think he's done a good job with some of his fighters and got the best out of them. Some, like Macklin and Murray, haven't given him the respect he deserves and their careers suffered for it. I like him though and I'm confident he'll produce many world champions from Britain in the future.
