If you're a boxer would you stay with a trainer who is that bad simply due to the location?

    Almost certainly not.

But if said camp possess a number of excellent fighters (who you are on good terms with) for you to spar with, learn from etc, then location (particularly when considering where the viable alternative camps are located) does become a factor and the trainer's appeal less so. I know exactly how that reads, but most of those lads have been in the sport for years and could practically train themselves and quite frankly, Scott Quigg (based on his last few fights) is worse off with Joe!

Many of the lads currently with Joe have known each other for years and not just as a result of coming through the amateur ranks. That too counts for a great deal. The prospect of going to work with a bunch of mates is far more appealing then dragging yourself off hundreds of miles each day to graft with (potentially) a bunch of twats who you hardly know.

    What's the issue with Hatton?

I remember reading a year or so ago that Gallagher said he was gutted he never got to work with Hatton?

Back then he was still a very much live opponent and well ranked/rated unfortunatley Ricky finished him

I think convenience plays a big part in it.

He comes across as a full on bell end to me.
Up his own arse and looks like he could do with a full valet.
As for being the best coach in the country that's a difficult 1, he has a great stable so he is obviously doing something right to have the amount of fighters at a good level with him.
I personally think he has done a great job with Crolla and callum smith (who to be fair could look tremendous with any trainer in his corner ) none of his other fighters have over achieved or surprised me in terms of success or performances though since linking up with joe Gallagher.

Crolla's improvement has been huge and Joe has to be given credit for that. He is boxing to game plans superbly.

Would box Derry's ears off if they fought again imo.

I agree that crolla has come on well, certainly over the past 18mnth.
Which incidently was around the time he started strength work with a conditioner. I dont know how i used to get by without it he told a friend of mine.
So maybe all the recent improvement weve seen from crolla hasnt all been down to joe.
But i still do say hes a good domestic trainer.
