Joe Gans - how high do you rank him?

Could you find justification for him being considered the GOAT?

I have often (but not always) seen him omitted from a list of the top 10 fighters of all time P4P - which is crazy IMO.

How high do you rank him?

Top 10. He was a marvel IMO, and the best fighter we have on film before the 20's in my estimation. A complete fighter in every sense. If only he hadn't thrown a certain fight...

Among the pioneers, pre-Walker Law, he's way, way up there.

To pretend that the differences between boxing before ~1920 and after ~1920 aren't great enough to disallow ranking them all together is a bit misguided. I'd ask for an "amen" but the only return I'd expect is my echo.

How can Greb be all the way down at # 4 when he's the greatest fighter of the modern era?

Gans was an exceptional fighter. I rank him ahead of Leonard at lightweight ...

    Nice call with Walker.

Surprised Ali at 7. I seriously doubt there are 6 fighters in history that have a better record than him and did as much as he did for the sport. Not to mention his out-the-ring achievements.

Surely most of the fighters fighting when the Walker law came in were the same ones fighting the week before.
What do you think changed with the fighters in 1920 ?
