Gans wins a wide decision. Gans is a complete fighter. He is faster than Mayweather, hits harder than Mayweather, and is more defensively savvy than Mayweather. Floyd will get hurt with Gans speed and amazing power. I'll give Floyd maybe 5 rounds.

Joe Gans UD 15 Floyd Mayweather Jr.:good

As much as I like Gans he loses a close decision here.

I would pick Gans here because he is more tested against great fighters and in adverse situations. It would not be a confident pick.

Mayweather is so talented that he simply cannot be counted out against anybody his weight or thereabouts.

Gans via wide decision he fought the much better opposition and was more complete he could do it he holds a newspaper decision against Barbados Joe Walcott and had a competitive fight against Langford as well as many other great wins. People forget that Floyd struggled with Castillo at this weight.

Ability in this case is not just a matter of familiar conventional technicalities like combinations and high hands; Gans had the kind of punch anticipation and timing that cannot be taught. He was much like Kostya Tszyu in the way he led you into explosive traps, but he was far quicker off the mark.
