First time I´m reading something about this...and it says that the crowd was hooting "fake"....and it says also that it was a sparring exhibition and Griffo said he had agreed to not put Gans out....

The report on boxrec describes it as a farce as well and actually Griffo apparently said it was a fake fight :?...

Anyway, anyone have more information on this ? It was a real fight or not after all ? Should be counted in the record of both ?

Yeah it says it's a fix in 'The Long Fight' too, or that Griffo was too good for Gans at that point and told to take it easy on him.

Wait, wasn't Griffo already a pisshead at this point?

this was pretty soon after joe fought/was robbed vs jonny van hest, this match could have been made to test gans v world class(if pissed) opposition, unless i read it wrong the crowd wasn't informed it was basically an exibition, and was understandably unhappy at the news

The first two reports at boxrec for this bout were put up by me. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find either the Baltimore American or the Baltimore Morning Herald next-day reports for it. The 4 different next-day reports I have are in agreement that it was a tame bout, nobody being hurt at the end of the 10th round. Manager of Griffo (in a report from Washington Post, posted by a friend of mine at boxrec) claimed that Gans' manager asked him to take it easy on Gans. Al Herford (manager of Gans) claimed that the Deputy Marshal Farnan was at the ringside with the orders not to allow any slugging, and that's why he asked Griffo not to slug with Gans. The bout between them was announced as having been arranged no later than November 11, so it's not like they picked Gans at the last moment as the only fighter who agreed to get into the ring with Griffo.

Giving LMR his final look over, not sure you're going to be pleased where he ends up.

Won't be giving Walcott a look until I get to around the 210 mark.
