I think that Joe is the only HW fighter that Fitz didn't get on his resume and I'd like to know what people, who knows more about 1890s than me, think about this fight. Goddard seems to be highly rated by contemporaries, but I don't think his resume is very deep.

Do you think that Goddard would cause more problems to Fitz than other fighters? With Goddard on his list, would it change Fitz all-time ranking?

Goddard was a serious puncher.Perhaps Matt Donnellon might be able to fill in the gaps for you?

It might Goddard have added something to Fitz resume as Godard in my opinion was a little better than Maher who Fitz iced in one round.

Goddard, roughly 6 feet 190 pounds, once drew with Peter Jackson. ( Goddard down twice, Jackson once ), but could deal with Tom Sharkey, and faded after that loss.

As I've said before Goddard should have fought John L Sullivan.

I think Goddard was behind Slavin, Jackson and Corbett in the queue to fight the fading John L. He was, however, a really top fighter 1890-93 but alcohol got him like so many others in them days, Slavin, Maher, John l, Jackson as well. If Fitz beat him in that time frame it would elevate him considerably legacy wise-after the Ed Smith fight, it would do nothing for his legacy.
