    Joe had a controversial fight with big-hitting Robbie Davies at the famous old Liverpool Stadium in 1977. From memory, Joe was stopped prematurely in the fourth round and it caused a bit of a stink because Davies, a former Olympian and ABA champion, was making his debut amid a lot of fanfare. Davies cleared things up in a rematch when he stopped Hannaford in the second round.
