Well, I'm not picking the guy who, in his prime, managed to lose to Bert Cooper, Tommy Morrison and Bruce Seldon. That's for f**king sure.
That wasn't prime Cobb. Cobb's chin finally caved in against Collier and Tex was dropped numerous times before the stoppage. The fight happened in 1985. Tex's prime was 1980-1982.
Hipp wasnt a bad fighter. He was in most of the fights, but his face would swell so bad he couldnt see and the fight would be stopped. Fun to watch though. If I remember he had Morrison badly hurt and couldnt finish him before getting stopped.
He broke Morrison's jaw. Tough, tough guy with a sneaky southpaw style. Not much of a reach but knew how to time his shots and game as hell.
Not in his prime he didn't. He lost to Norton, Dokes, and Holmes (and those first two were close disputed decisions.)
Yeah I don't even know why anyone would reference the Colier fight. Tex Cobb was stopped only once in 51 professional fights and to a man who had the makings of a guy who might even have beaten Hipp too, past prime or otherwise. Hipp was stopped 6 times in 50 fights, with at least 3 of them coming in his prime..
It's actually a very interesting fight. The early eighties Cobb who was in some sort of condition was likely a bit better but Cobb was not a puncher and it would be a very grueling fight. Does anyone know or has anyone seen the Cobb KO loss to Collier ? Does the footage exist ?
