Yeah spot on. He’s going to be in the exact same position. He will be number 1 but he won’t actually be mandatory. He will have to have a final eliminator down the line one would imagine.
I’d have preferred someone who is hungry and will give it everything- Takam is a tough man but he’s no more than a gatekeeper at this point. That said Frank could have easily put him in with a top 15 opponent who would have lasted a couple of rounds. Not the worst fight at this stage for Joyce but might not exactly be a spectacle.
An out of shape carlito Takam who took the fight at ten days notice gave big Josh kittens until the matchroom stoppage came to the rescue. Decent enough tickover for the JUGGERNAUT
Takam didn't do much, he just benefitted from a clash of heads where Joshua came off the worst. It wasn't exactly a high quality contest.
They'd definitely make that an event in it's own right. It might be a hard sell though as I don't think the casual market is necessarily that aware of Joyce.
Joyce won silver medal at last Olympics. I don't think the casual market was aware of Oscar Rivas but Whyte fought him on PPV. I don't think the casual marker was aware of Dillian Whyte before Joshua fought him on PPV (AJ's first ever PPV). Joyce v Whyte is actually a fight fans should be 'demanding' in the UK. If we all want Fury-AJ, then it leaves our other two world-ranked heavyweights free to fight one another.
I spoke to a few mates and family members who I would class as casual boxing fans and quite a lot of them were interested in Joyce vs Dubois
