I still havent heard a single Ortiz fan call for him to fight somebody let alone Joyce. You know someones on the ropes when they arent fighting anyone, their fans dont want them to fight anyone, and they are being protected. Joyce ices Ortiz and becomes the second best heavyweight in the world .
There's all this hullaballo about how many pro fights a guy had. Joyce is physically mature, he's 33. From here on, the speed and stamina start going downhill and he has to start relying on boxing tricks. I think Ortiz stops him but it's a good call-out by Joyce because he is one of the few guys older. I don't see how much credit Joyce should get for beating someone who just got splattered by a cruiser.
I really like Hunter and I'm rooting for him, but nah, Ortiz would brutalize him, he needs to face his fair share of Szpilka's and maybe work his way to a Jennings before taking on a beast Like Ortiz.
In truth I think he'd do well. He could cause Ortiz a lot of problems like Jennings did(who managed to fight his way back in after a terrible start) but the power would probably be the x-factor that decides the fight.
Joyce is a really odd one to watch. He doesn't look fast and his shots don't appear to be particularly powerful but my word he seems to be so damn effective.
Watched the whole fight now, damn he battered Kiladze, no wonder he quit in the 5th, he was taking a lot of punishment in there. Thought this was Joyce's best performance to date, looked less sloppy than previous outings. Joyce isn't the prettiest fighter but he's still entertaining to watch because he doesn't take a backwards step. I hope he steps up again in regards to opposition in his next fight, he's too good for these lower level fighters. Kiladze should quit or drop down a level, that's 3 bad stoppage losses in a row.
Joyce is extremely effective and relentlessly comes forward, and he got a clear win against a top 30 HW. Thats the highest ranked opponent he has been in with now. However he was eating a lot of over hand rights, as counters off his own jab. Although it didnt look like Kiladze had the mustard to hurt him, its technical flaw that he has shown in other fights and I recall it was a big issue against Usyk. I think that is his major weakness to work on. I know a few fighters in the top 10 with very good right hands.
Well, he is fighting Bakole in two weeks I think, most of the people see unproven Bakole as the favourite Idk why. Hunter is underrated as ****, I think he will make a big impact in the heavyweight division in the next 2 or 3 years
I don't get that at all either, I fully expect Hunter to handle him, Ilunga's never shared the ring with even close o the skillset of Hunter and I agree, he's incredibly underrated. He can be a force, but he needs to work his way into it, because I think Ortiz might be the most underrated guy at HW at the moment. But in a year or two, if Hunter can string together some impressive wins, I think he might have a chance.
I agree Ortiz is and was severely underrated, the problem is that he might be even older than 40, and he had a tough fight vs Wilder in wich he took big shots from one of the most powerful punchers in the sport, both things combined have me guessing Ortiz is, if not shot, well past his prime right now, and he wont ever be the same boxer that gave a beating to Thompson and Jennings
I didn't see the fight, but Kiladze is a former cruiser weight who was stopped early before. How did he last 5 rounds here? I like Joyce for who he is. Flawed, but very game and entertaining. My guess is the general boxing fans will like him a lot.
Kiladze is a mover so he went 6 rounds with Kownacki and 5 with Hunter and so Joyce didn't take any longer than they did to stop him, so I don't think it's too bad a result. Joyce looked better than Kownacki or Hunter vs Kliadze. Kownacki actually had some trouble early with him. Joyce in contrast never looked anything but in total control and when he did land he had Kiladze down everytime. Joyce is flawed I doubt he beats the top guys who can hit. But he's an exciting fighter to have in the mix. I expect he'll give us some very entertaining fights in the future if he's matched up with the right guys.
