Yeah, it's about wanting them to do well instead of supporting them because they do well. Americans seemed never really to have that mentality as a group.
I like Joyce a lot. Big, strong, athletic, always looking to engage, entertaining to watch, willing to take on anyone early in his pro career. Knocking over a defending Commonwealth champ in 4 pro fights speaks for itself. Having just watched this most recent fight though, I would like to see him set guys up with the jab more. He needs to throw the jab hard & fast. Not push it. Having that tool in his kit-bag isn't an optional extra. It's must-have.
Definitely improved his power since 2013, bigger stronger, his physique and frame has filled out. I think that puny cruiserweight Usyk would get his clocked cleaned out in the rematch. I don't see him surviving the full 12 rounds to outbox the incredible Juggernaut Joyce! And that's pretty much the only way guys like Usyk can win fights against the top super heavyweights. With judges and point decisions, lol.
He needs to leave Haye sign with warren or hearn, someone who can back him financially to get people who are high in the rankings to take a fight against him to then get him up the rankings. As multiple people have pointed out he’s not young and he may end up wasting his prime fighting bums.
Haye is definitely the wrong promoter for such a prospect but i doubt this will happen in the near future.
Nothing to do with Brits being easily pleased as to why they loved Bruno. Yes that's true. Brit's don't just support who's the best, which is why Brits supported Bruno over Lewis. Bruno was down to earth, humble, didn't have airs or graces, was a local lad done good. Lewis in comparison despite the hype and after KOing Ruddock was the golden boy Olympic medalist, too aloof, too arrogant, that didn't connect well with the British psyche. Not sure why we are like this, might have something to do with class issues, most here don't like a show off or something thinking they are better than everyone else. It's why Eubank Sr was unpopular during his prime, he was the villain to Benn's working class hero, but after he lost and was fighting the bigger Thompson as an underdog, fans warmed to him. It's why Joshua is also popular now, he plays being humble, down to earth, lives with his mum, doesn't flash his wealth. Fury on the other hand was arrogant, flashy and so fans never warmed to him like they did with Joshua.
Agreed, nobody with anything to lose will face him unless they get paid well for taking a possible loss. Haye simply doesn't have the financial clout to secure the kind of opponents Joyce needs. He's talked about a Hughie Fury fight, which maybe his best option. Fury isn't a a real draw and has limited options because of his own small time promoter in Hennessey. It's a dangerous fight for both of them but might make sense as neither have great options at the moment for fighting anyone else decent, both are in the who needs em club.
Yeah he's so open you wonder what happens when he does get clocked by a good counter puncher or even just a hard hitter who won't back down from his pressure. We know he doesn't have a great chin from his amateur days, he needs to improve his defence if he's to succeed at the top level I think.
To early to tell for me, I certainly wouldn't go as far as some putting in the top 4 hw's just yet.. Calm down! Let's see how he fares when he steps up first is it. Lol..
It’s too early to say. But I do like what I’ve seen so far. If he fights someone of Chisoras level and blasts them out then I think a lot more people are going to sit up and take notice.
Still not 100% sold but dude reminds me of some sort of super nintendo street fighter glitch where you could crouch in the corner and do the same move over and over again and **** everybody up and they couldn't do ****, not that Joyce does this but his style is so got dam awkward and unorthodox and effective it just reminds me of that, the question is will this style be effective when he steps up, I don't know but i can't wait to see.
If you watch carefully with when he fights you can see David Haye crouched under a curtain feverishly bashing a+b and right trigger on the controller
