Believe me, I was on the Zhang bandwagon since about 2015. His success against Joyce was a lot less surprising to me than it was for most. Basically, if Joyce can use his ramrod jab to successfully keep Makhmudov off of him - then he will win. If Makh gets past Joyce's jab - well it's game over.
I'm with ya there. Made a decent amount of coin off the first Zhang v Joyce fight. Even if Makhumodov gets past that jab I still think he gets walked down. He's not dealing with a small man this time.
Two hard-hitting and slow HWs without much defense. Don't leave out such a defining characteristic! Joyce in particular makes the cognitive processing of Lenny from Of Mice & Men seem like hyperdrive. He'd lose a sprint to a tortoise. He throws a punch in round 1 and it connects in round 12.
Mak punches every bit as hard if not harder than Big Bang. When it comes to skills Big Bang is obviously better than him but Mak's power is ridiculous and as much as I love Big Joe I really wouldn't want to see him fight another one of the three hardest punchers in the division coming off back to back demoralizing defeats and a brutal KO loss at his age. Not saying he can or can't win but it would be a crazy dumb fight for him take now. What do you think another brutal KO loss would spell for him at his age and this stage of his career? There's no way back from that. He might beat Mak but there are plenty of far less risky fights for him to take to work his way back up. Opting to face a murderous punching skilled southpaw man mountain Big Bang when he was guaranteed a title shot was dumb as as hell as was jumping straight back into a rematch against him, Big Joe's handlers should be sent to the chair for even contemplating a fight like this right now.
