Could Dempsey brutalise Joyce like he did Willard they are both similar sized and lumbering. I think the size and skill difference will come out and Joyce would rely on boxing and using his 100 lb advantage which is the smart way to fight a smaller faster brawler
Are you kidding? The Dempsey of the Willard fight on July 4, 1919 was a killer. On his way up he fought in Mining camps...Hobo camps...he was riding the rails...having bar fights to win $5.00 because he hadn't had anything to eat for 3 days! Tough times make tough men...Dempsey was a BEAST...the big stiffs in this world of "safety first" boxing are tailor made for Jack...
Dempsey has the skills and speed to box his way to a decision over glacially slow Joyce. But would he? I think he's one of those guys that tries to brawl even when he doesn't have to. Against Joyce I think that's doom. JJ is slow AF but he keeps his punches short and reasonably accurate, he throws a lot of them and he has good stamina. I think his chin will be better than Willard's because he's not only bigger but better trained as well. If Dempsey tries to blast him out he's gonna basically run himself against a brick wall and I think JJ will pummel a gassed Dempsey to dust.
Joyce is obviously better than Willard, but he's still slow as a turtle, and can't move his head to save his life. Dempsey could realistically take this.
