I agree, this style matchup could fizzle. Nice to have another HW fight at this level though, even if it's not the pairing I want to see.
Parker is overrated and not good enough for fights like this, he has stagnated compared to a few years ago, I don't expect much from him, Joyce would win...
As far as their common opponent goes; I had Parker beating Takam 8-4 whilst I had Takam 3-2 up going into the 6th when it was stopped very prematurely. Also bearing in mind Parker beat a better version of Takam.
Would be competitive but in the end I think Joyce simply out works Parker to win a UD. Parker is too easy to counter when he unloads it's why he's tended to seem to hold back at times because he knows when he throws he opens himself up to be hit. His short reach and predictable attacks behind his jab make him too easy to counter even against shorter opponents like Takam, Ruiz and Chisora, Joyce with his size and reach advantages will find Parker's chin with regularity. Joyce won't stop throwing, Parker won't have the time to pick his shots he'll be forced to exchange or get run over much like in the Chisora fight but unlike Chisora, Joyce throws more and won't gas. I see a competitive first half as Parker is fast and Joyce can be easy to hit but later in the fight Parker gets worn down and fades and Joyce takes over.
I think I might hire a hitman the next time I read someone mention Joyce's lack of speed as their sole reason for him losing a fight. It would be like ruling Joshua out of fights because of his gas tank. Yes, Joe is slow - it's obvious, we all can see that but he's also unbeaten as a pro, a mandatory challenger for a world title (double checked that myself, took no time at all - didn't need a source) and is incredibly effective with the tools he's got. And if you look as the faces of beaten opponents you can clearly see this boxing sloth somehow manages to land, and land often. Ask Dubois about Joe's slow jab - it might have had a second class stamp on it when they fought but it got delivered enough times to break an eye socket. But Dubois has no head movement, right? Well maybe 'when' Joe delivered it matters more than 'how fast'? You know, timing - that thing which is much harder to spot than speed but WAY more important. Joyce does what all boxers do; he fights according to his strengths to mitigate his weaknesses. He's not fast so he's always in front of an opponent, in range or just on the edge if it. He utilises his granite chin, ring IQ and timing to make this work. He uses changes in speed - from slow to not as slow - to surprise opponents and disrupt their rhythm. Eventually, he will match up with someone too athletic, too powerful and too mobile to make this work but up until now that man hasn't shared a ring with Joyce and Parker won't be that man either. Joyce UD or late stoppage...
It's hard to back Parker in any meaningful fight anymore. Mind you styles make fights so this one could be interesting.
If Parker was just more motivated he could be a key player in the division but he seems happy with what he's already achieved. I rate him at his best above Joyce, but at this point I'm not sure he's got his best in him
I hope so. Fury/Joshua vs Joyce interests me. Either of them vs Parker feels like an obvious UD for whoever fights him.
I think Parker has regressed because earlier on in his career vs Takam and Ruiz Jr he was much more fluid and more balanced with his punch output. He now looks like he just coasts and tries to do the bare minimum to win rounds. He might up the ante here and there but it's on low speed. I think he'd do well in some rounds but let Joyce find his rhythm with the jab and ultimately lose a decision in a fight he could probably do better in. I'm not sure a new trainer can change him because i think he doesn't want it enough and perhaps doesn't have the ring iq to properly implement new tactics shown to him. Parker might always be in close fights or on the losing end to the higher ranked fighters because he simply doesn't want to do enough to truly get the win.
If he actually followed up when he hurt his opponent, I could see it happening. He hurt Whyte and Chisora, he can hurt Joyce, but will probably just end up letting him off the hook.
Joyce is too big, strong, fit and tough for Parker and would win on points or possibly grind him down and stop him late on accumulation. It would be very competitive though.
Parker has SPEED and any slow guy will be troubled by him. We also have not given enough time for his new trainer to actually make changes. Parker by UD.
