This is a great fight for the fans and one both sides should jump at making. A win for either looks really impressive on their resume. the general consensus amongst fans is that Parker is capable of more than what he demonstrates and thus underperforms. Joyce, on the other hand, appears horrible at first on the eye test, but is always effective and gets the result. I see Parker winning possibly the first 5 rounds with his superior hand speed. Only just. And then Joyce taking over, playing to his strengths of being the bigger, having a better gas tank and ultimately more willpower.
Hopefully it gets made. It makes sense for Parker as Joyce is mandatory so if Parker can win he puts himself in position for another lucrative title shot for whoever has the WBO belt. It's a risky fight but Parker has never shied away from tough fights and he has a chance with his speed and also I think his body punching as the only time we've seen Joyce hurt is when he's been hit downstairs.
Great matchup. 50/50 but I favour Parker. He's been in with better fighters (Usyk aside) and held his own, that experience will pay imo should this happen. Can't count the Juggernaut out though. 1000x better than Whyte-Arreola.
Joyce stops him by the 10th Ref stoppage on this one as Parker gets swarmed after initially having a lot of successful moments in the first 4 to 5 rounds
Joyce by decision. Parker doesn't have the drive, or the smarts, or the physical advantages to beat Joyce. He'll struggle to get past Joyce's hefty jab, lose whatever gameplan he had to begin with and get systematically ground down till the final bell sounds or his body can take no more (likely the former, Joe P's nothing if not tough). It's a very clear cut win for Joyce for me. I'm more confident in that pick than I was for Dubois (who was untested and therefore something of a question mark). Bet big on the angry mushroom head if the fight ever happens.
Parker's beaten a number of fighters who'd go straight to the top of Joyce's resume... Yes, Parker doesn't look as good as he did a few years back and motivation is always a question mark, but he's the more proven fighter by a distance. Joyce is the one on the way up still, but he's being overhyped a fair bit for what he's actually done so far IMHO. I'd give a slight edge to Parker, myself, but this certainly isn't a mismatch.
Joyce wins an easy UD. Joyce's advantages: taller, rangier, stronger, heavier, bigger puncher, equal or better chin, equal or better engine, better jab, more versatile, robbed of Olympic gold vs mediocre amateur, undefeated, stronger will, more ambitious and even similar footspeed (compare how sluggish Parker was against old Chisora compared to Usyk, who many believe has slowed down considerably since the WSB). Parker's advantages: faster hands. It's bizarre to me that people think Parker has a chance against Joyce. He admitted that he wouldn't have complained if he lost the decision to Chisora, which is both weak psychologically and shows he thought he didn't do enough to win, which most observers would agree he didn't. Two of his best wins were a close fight with fringe contenders Takam in NZ and an extremely close fight with Ruiz in NZ, another was outpointing a just turned 23 year old, totally untested Hughie. And he lost meekly to AJ and Whyte. He even made hard work of fights with Junior Fa and journeyman Cojanu in NZ! I can only guess that people rate Parker because he's an AJ/Whyte opponent, while Joyce makes Wilder look better with less dominant wins over a worse version of Stiverne than Wilder fought and over Jennings than Ortiz. People also don't rate Dubois but he was a massive favourite for a reason and many who had sparred both extensively, including AJ and Fury, picked Dubois to win or at least rated it as a 50-50. I hope this fight happens because it's a shocking mismatch where the odds will be far closer than they have any right to be. Joyce can put on a great performance and his stock will actually go down because people don't understand what they are watching.
Parker has all the experience and speed to win this I think his MENTAL game is the key - as it has been for several years
Difficult to say who wins. Parker lost or at the very most scraped a draw vs Chisora, but this may have just been a bad night. He's also not really fought anyone of great value since he lost to Whyte. But also I note that Joyce was losing against Dubois and Takam before getting his TKO victories. But then again you could argue that Takam was probably going to gas himself out to establish that early points advantage and would have lost the later rounds, same with Dubois. This difference with Parker is that Joyce will not knockout Parker. Parker can be knocked down, but has a great chin and recovery. I don't see Joyce knocking him out. I also don't see Parker knocking out Joyce either. It will come down to points decision, and this fight could go either way. It will come down to whoever wants it more, and I favour Joyce slightly. I hope and expect Joyce to win an MD/SD. I think Joyce could cause anyone problems, besides Fury who will just jab him for 12 rounds. If I had to bet I'd go Joyce via decision, but wouldn't surprise me if Parker nicks another lucky SD win.
Agreed, Parker has some of the ingredients needed to beat Joyce, he also lacks the grit to get going when the going gets tough. If Parker can land enough to get Joyce to hesitate in his attack he could pull it off. But it would have to be an effort he hasn't shown in years , I liked what I saw in Parker early but he seemed to reach a plateau and progressed no further. If this fight happens, and I'm dubious it will, a Parker win would have big money fights for the title coming soon as he'd be viewed as a known name with little threat.
