Who'd win this match up.? https://www.boxingnews24.com/2021/07/joe-joyces-manager-open-to-luis-ortiz-fight/?amp
Even before the Luis Ortiz age conspiracy theories that has to be among the highest combined age fights at 77 years (if held today).
No way is an ancient 50 year old 6 round fighter going to last the distance against the most relentless HW on the planet today. Joyce wears Ortiz down and stops him around rounds 7-9
It would be an interesting contest, even now, but what age really is Ortiz? I can't see any other outcome over a Joyce knockout, though.
Both ridiculously overhyped relative to what they've actually achieved (arguably both have the same fighter as their best win, too). But I'd go for Joyce, could well be KO, his engine is too good for Ortiz and his chin is good enough to get into the later rounds where it'd count.
They've been circling each other for a while and it looked like it might happen before but Joyce's trainer said he needed a few more fights and now that's happened, so hopefully it now gets made. Ortiz will be dangerous in the first half of the fight and that's when he really needs to press and try to force a stoppage but once it goes into the latter half of the fight he'll fade like he did vs Wilder and will become vulnerable. If Joyce boxes behind his jab like in the Dubois fight I think Ortiz simply won't have the opportunities to counter and be forced onto the front foot where he's less effective. Ortiz isn't a seek and destroy type he doesn't cut off the ring well and Joyce should be able to take him late and then go through the gears and stop Ortiz.
Ortiz is incredibly overrated, done nothing of note and according to Yoel Romero he is at least 2 years older than he claims.
Perfect time for Joe to get some cred for beating Ortiz. F knows why Ortiz carries so much cachē since his record is pap but the juggernaut surely stuffs that jab in his face and plods him to submission in the mid-late rounds.
I think people give Ortiz too much of a hard time because of his age. Just because you're in your 40's doesn't mean you're out of shape. Just look at Wlad at 40. He was in better shape than most fighters. Ortiz is a great athlete. He did really well vs Wilder. There are fighters in the top 10 that I don't think would do as well vs Wilder as Ortiz did. I could definitely see Ortiz getting a decision here. Joyce is not a massive puncher, he wears you down with time, not explosive punches, and I don't see him outboxing Ortiz. I also see Ortiz being able to avoid a KO also, but again it depends on how he's doing since his last fights. Joyce is an incredibly slow fighter, and his technique is definitely not elite level. He's a big, physical fighter, but not difficult to hit and not exactly hard to avoid if you have any sort of good defence.
And Ortiz hasn't beaten anyone Joyce level either - they've both beaten nobody better than Jennings... Ortiz may have done well against Wilder in spells but that says as much about Wilder as it does Ortiz. Two fighters hopelessly overrated for what they've actually achieved here.
Yes, he's overrated. His best win is still Jennings from over five years ago. He's old, overrated and irrelevant.
