This happened after you made that post. AFTER. When I went looking for him because you had decided, for some bizarre reason, to demand he be banned but refused to just type his name.

The effort I put into moderating this place daily is probably equal to the effort I make to post, which is equal to the level of effort made by many posters.

Such an expert, it's unexpected.

Nobody ever reports anyone. It's incredibly rare. Then, people like you, spend pages complaining about "the toxicity!" and "why doesn't it all just happen by magic??"

There are four or five guys here who take the time to let me know when something is going sqew whiff and that's a big help. I'd ask you to pitch in, but given that i've asked you three or four times to name a poster who has clearly really upset you SO THAT I CAN BAN HIM and you refuse even to do that tiny little bit because my overall effort apparently isn't up to scratch, i'd say it's unlikely you'd be willing to help.

The thing is, people don't WANT to be banned for arguing and they don't tend to want other posters to be banned for arguing.

So it's a question of a moderator deciding what is good for the members because the members can't decide for themselves. That doesn't sit well with me.

There are people on this forum who genuinely believe that there should be no moderation here at all, i'm talking about senior guys with loads of posts. Janitor and klompton2 off the top of my head.

Then there are others who believe there isn't nearly enough moderation and that bannings and deletions should be far more common.

I'm of the opinion, crushingly cliched, that a good mod should be like a good referee. He should absolutely be there but you don't want to notice him too much.

Within that, there is a range of choices, but I won't stand for criticism from people who don't pitch in to help now and again. That's the minimum requirement for anyone who has "concerns" about the way the forum is run.

Also - I don't exclusively moderate the forum.

There are six or seven moderators that take action here.

I'm just the one that spends the most time, so if someone signs up to sell fake passports, it'll be me who deletes the thread.

 

I would agree that racism is rarer here. And when it does occur it sticks out like a sore thumb.
