Just a week ago: Joyce is the future HW champion he will smash Joshua and everyone else... Today: **** this slow *****, he doesn't move his head and doesn't have power! I am mind blown
He was always in a lose lose situation today. Win early and all you'd hear is 'Stiverne is a fat bum and he needs to find better opposition', but if not, he gets criticised....
People are totally sleeping on Joyce and tbf he might be similar to Breazeale in the speed and power status. However Joyce is far more robust, strong and imposing he has a far greater presence in the ring than Breazeale. Joyce imposes his will blokes and throws a ton of leather. Breazeale actually takes his time to warm up and has been out worked and hurt by a number of fighters in the early rounds like Mansour, Izu and even Kassi. Joyce brings the heat from the opening bell, and is relentless. The bloke is going to take a hell of a beating if he ever gets stopped because he is tough and relentless.
Joe Joyce is good addition to the heavyweight division. Some are critical of him, but I see decent skills, power and aggression. I do realize Stiverne is faded and was not in good fighting shape, but I liked the way Joyce handled him. It will be interesting to see who Joyce fights next. I'd like to see him in with a fringe contender like Robert Helenius or Charles Martin, or perhaps another former Wilder opponent like Arreola or Szpilka.
For me Joyce is a nightmare for anyone in top 10 I think beats the crap outta Parker and Ortiz And he can take a punch which helps his static footwork and limited defence Guys just relentless and his jab looks like it absolutely kills
The incredible Juggernaught Joe Joyce, absorbed those counters with the 273lb behemoth Stiverne without even blinking. I really don't want to see Deontay getting in with this indestructible robot. Make Joyce fight Ortiz, and give the next fight to Breazeale.
Hard to gauge much from Stiverne given the poor condition he was in but he did take some heavy counters so he can take a shot. Joyce is slow but he does have punch variety and decent technique, add that to a solid chin and he's dangerous to anybody out there. He's the sort of guy who will plough on throwing straight punches regardless of who's in front of him.
He's one of those guys who looks awful on film but still seems to win fights and cause guys problems. Tony Thompson was similar, although Joyce has a higher ceiling than him. He'll need to sort out his defence though. The easiest option might be just to focus on getting him to throw non-stop jabs when he's not power punching thus preventing fighters from throwing back, as there's too much to work on otherwise.
I can see Joyce upsetting Ortiz, but I can also see Ortiz catching him with something huge on the counter and flatlining him. Joyce has a good chin but not a McCall level chin that'd allow him to walk through anyone's punches without taking damage, and his skin is already pretty badly scarred up around both eyes. If Ortiz is able to time him with one of his big overhand lefts, and he probably will considering the level of opposition that have been able to do so thus far, he has a chance to drop Joyce or open a cut. Ortiz doesn't like to be crowded, true, but he also has a pretty heavy jab and the strength and weightiness to stop fighters just walking in on him. Joyce wouldn't be advised to just wade in guns blazing the way he's done everyone else thus far, even though that tactic might work if he can avoid walking onto something big. Joyce has a decent jab himself when he uses it, and he should focus on making it the cornerstone of his pro style if he wants to achieve further success.
He's better than Breazeale, that's true. Maybe not quite as heavy handed, but a lot more relentless and seems to take a better punch. Much better jab when he commits to it too. A fight between them right now would be interesting, and might actually favour Joyce.
Arreola and Szpilka would be pointless. Arreola is more washed up than Stiverne right now and Szpilka would just get steamrolled the way he got steamrolled by Kownacki. Helenius might give him rounds, but they wouldn't be very useful rounds. Martin might be a decent test of the waters, or maybe someone like Chisora or Takam if his handlers feel he can take on a bit more of a challenge.
I wouldn't favour him to KO Whyte right now. Whyte's just a bit too tough and canny to let Joyce get to him IMO. Hughie might also last the distance, though I don't favour him to come close to winning. Kownacki's toughness is still a bit of a question mark as I don't think we've ever seen him get knocked down thus far (might be wrong) and Breazeale's toughness looks good enough to last the distance in a slugfest that might see both men hitting the canvas. Agreed on most of the other picks.
I don't get the hate for Joyce. He comes to fight. He can take a punch, and he has power. Stamina looks good too, meaning he can pressure his man all night. Okay, he's not fast or defense, so what. He's not going to be an easy night for anyone. I would not place him in the top ten yet, but he's knocking on that door.
