The Louis who clinically smashed the resistance out of Max Baer against the Tyson who beat Trevor Berbick for the WBC belt.
I like Tyson by KO. Accomplishment wise Louis is probably the greatest Heavyweight, however I'd struggle to fit him into my top 10 H2H list.
I'll favor the '35 version of Louis just a bit. '86 Tyson was still a bit raw, and I think Louis could have gotten inside Mike's punches and cooled Mike's fire. Can't count out Mike. Now, usually, if the scenario is 'if they'd come along in the same era', I think that helps the older fighter, compared to these time-machin'ing match-ups. In this case, though, I would favor Mike, coming along in Louis's time, for the next year ('36) because Louis got a little distracted at that moment, while Mike (if he proceeded in analogy to how he developed in the '80's) was putting it together.
mike tyson ko1 murder he have d better chin n speed of d hands by miles n better power n combinashones
If the fight goes past two rounds Mike Tyson would have to walk through the Seven Circles of Hell to beat Joe Louis and that just isn't happening. Louis had infighting and defensive skills that no opponent Tyson faced pocessed. Louis was better going forward but that would happen if Tyson didn't get the early KO. It never ceases to amaze me how the myth of 'Prime' Mike Tyson burns so brightly.
Although you put this dreadfully I'd have to agree. If Tyson was using them excuses for gloves that fighters used in the early C20th there's a good chance he could kill fighters in the ring, Joe would be one. However if Joe were to be in the 86 era it favours him more.
Tyson walks right into Joes power, soon as he has a taste of louis power he starts to back up and its lights out Louis by KO rd 10
What happens when Joe walks into tysons power? People keep saying Tyson never fought anybody on joes level. Joe was hurt, put down, an even knocked out by fighters that were nowhere near Tysons level. Joe was the one with durability issues. Not Tyson... He was old an washed up but soaked up Lennox shots for 8 rounds. An you think Joes gonna put away A prime Mike? I do not think so. I love Joe Louis, but I have to be realistic also. Bad matchup for Louis.
Iron Mike inside 8. Joe Louis was slower, and a plodding puncher from the B & W era. He would be an easy target. That style wouldn't win a world championship today. Joe Louis couldn't box him, and would have a hard time fighting on the inside. It all goes back to a different era and style of fighting. Iron Mike would slip, move on the inside and counter violently at will.
I rate the handspeed in terms of combinations equal. Same goes for power, although I'd concede Tyson's power being a shade above Louis, but we're splitting hairs at that point. This goes against the knee-jerk reaction to the conclusion that Tyson hit much harder; Tyson's power against top opposition wasn't that great. In title fights, the ratio is like 65% (or so). Yes, Louis shuffled, but his footwork is underrated in my opinion, and he showed much better resolve. I would pick Tyson to get there first simply based on how fast he started and his aggression. Louis definitely falls short in the chin department. This falls into the majority opinion that if Tyson doesn't catch him and hurt him early, he gets frustrated, then takes a whipping. Ask me tomorrow and I may give another answer, but today I say Tyson catches him early and finishes Louis in the 3rd.
Louis is the standard for punching technique and accuracy; I have little doubt Tyson was faster and packed a more powerful punch, not to mention significantly bigger peak for peak. Louis hit the canvas with surprising regularity by comparison against much lesser punchers than Mike. I just see him being far, far quicker on his feet and steamrolling through him to be blunt.
