Joe Louis decline ? Or was Walcott and Charles that good ?

    I always fancied that Walcott would have been the tougher fight, if they had both got him on the same day.

    I just think that Charles would have been easier to catch up with.

    Perhaps. But regardless the Joe Louis of 1937-1942 was a very different man from the one who faced either of them.

    If Louis wasn't that good, then there is no good HW in division history... Questioning Louis greatness and ability is silly.

    It might be the other way round. Charles won 2 decisions against Walcott and from what I've read probably deserved the 4th fight.

    Charles deserved the 4th as much as Walcott deserved the 2nd, by all accounts. The difference being that Charles landed a real hard KD.

    Joe fought him before, knew what to expect and when Walcott got fancy Joe was waiting for him like a spider to a fly and threw a 6-punch buzzsaw of power shots - similar to what took out Billy Conn in fight 1

    Based on total accomplishments- skill & power/combo punching- I rate Joe Louis the Greatest - he is my number one
