I have been in on the AA process in both college admissions and hiring. This is not at all how it works. Sorry. I was on a committee at a very large US university that was tasked to find diversity in the Fine Arts program for a position. Do you care to interpret that instruction? These same instructions were echoed in the admissions process for a very small program; it could simply not be all white even if those were the most qualified applicants. Those were explicit instructions at a state run university. They weren't exactly looking for Graham Willington III. I have also been involved first hand with the SBA process and was told by officers of that organization that this is not how it works. If you chose to believe these are "fabrications", go ahead. Doesn't bother me a bit. Sometimes the dream is hard to let go of. And as I have stated before, AA is hardly the worst of sins propagated by the US government. It is well-meaning in its aspirations, but poorly and corruptly administrated, and has become something entirely different in its execution. Still, there are demons much worse in the government, so much worse as to make this a mere nuisance.

And lets just say for the sake of argument that Carlos is correct and everytime affirmative action is implemented it is used to hire a minority worker over a white worker who has exactly the same skill set, qualifications, experience, education etc. Is that or is that not reverse racism to hire an applicate (who according to you is on a level playing field in all other areas) based solely on his ethnicity? If its not explain that to the equally qualified guy who just lot out on the job because he had the misfortune to be born caucasion. But Im a racist... You can do an online search of affirmative action and find countless stories like what Seamus and I have told. So unless you think there is a massive white supremicist conspiracy afoot to bash affirmative action even in balanced outlets you have to assume that A. either the system is flawed, or B. the ignorance that you accuse both myself and seamus of is so endemic that it is actually reflected in the hiring process through individuals ignorant of the way it is supposed to be implemented following incorrect hiring practices.
K, no truer words were ever spoken. A fireman in NY who is white, has to score many more points to pass today,for example. And if that is not enough, they lower the standards of the test. I am for equal justice for ALL, but this is reverse discrimination, no less, no more....equal opportunity doesn't mean equal results. Political correctness run amuck.
