Joe Louis dwarfing Sonny Liston

Ali was never 6ft3, Foreman was and was taller than Ali.

It's just hyped size of them, like Andre theGiant was never 7ft 4 but 7ft1 on his tallest day.

 

I have always , always heard Ali stated at 6' 3" .... as far as Liston / Louis , Sonny may have been a shade under 6'1" and Joe was a solid 6' 2" ... the angles and the body language impacted that shot as well.

 

Liston had a SHW sized Johnson. It's not his glare that was imposing, it's the member.

 

As for Louis, he has a very big cranium. Got one of them watermelon skulls with a big chin and forehead, even his ears were big. I had a coworker who had a similar head. Borderline Jay Leno-esque.

 

It ain’t like Louis was a small guy he was from the era where you got as low as you could, not as low as you wanted, here he is at 230lbs when the camera changes angle you can see he holds the weight fine.

Re Liston. There is some conjecture as to exactly how long his reach was. This photo of Liston standing alongside Bugner allows for some comparison I think.

Bugner who was at least 6’4” was listed as having an 82” reach.

Just per this photo I think there’s a fair argument for Liston’s reach that bit longer than Bugner’s and of course Liston’s massive hands are that much larger than Joe’s.
