    Exhibition.

Some of the exhibitions back then were basically mini fights.

He also KO'd future #1 contender Nino Valdes in 1 during an exhibition around this time as well.

No he was washed up - being Joe Louis. Anything post the second Walcott fight he’s shot. Anything post ww2 he’s clearly diminished. He fought Valentino in 1949 he’s clearly fat, but he still had enough power to take out a fighter of Valentino’s level.
You can see he struggled with Layne in their exhibition. Louis for all intent purposes was done.

Then how did he slaughter Valentino and knock out Nino Valdez?

Well my opinion would be this - both of those fighters posed favorable styles to Louis that allowed him to maximize whatever ability he had left, and in the case of Valentino I don’t think he was that good to begin with, and Valdes was still early in his career and had mostly fought low level opposition from his country not world level

I didn't know about Valdes...that was past prime Louis and prime Louis might even kill him.

Sonny Liston did KOed Valdes but I'm sure that Louis could do it faster if he was able to get him even being past prime.
