    That is correct. :good

Its not just the names, but the quality of the names. To me it seamed like you simply took a few fighters who punched hard, or hasn't been stopped ect (or was hyped) and just threw them up there. I don't see that as quality.

That's why i responded the way i did, because i knew you were going to throw that in there. The difference in the two, is that Nova was cheated because of an incompetent ref who wouldn't do anything for the mauling and fouling that Galento was doing. Quarry lost on his own behalf and he went down from a shot that he was hurt from. And him getting up late after the knockdown was his fault, which means he lost fair and square. I would call the win "stained" but definitely not questionable.

By names i mean notable fighters at the top of the division (Baer, Louis ect) "getting there" and being there are two different things. Outside of dropping Joe (in a fight in which he was devastatingly Koed in) he has his ass handed to him by both Baer brothers. As i said, at least Chuvalo put hard fights with the top names.

There is some risk of turning this into a Gallento vs Chuvalo thread, but oh well.

They both lost to all the champions of their era so that cancels out in the equation.

I have conceeded that Chuvalo has the best sigle win.

Beyond that it gets prety lopsided in favour of Gallento.

If we match the 5 best opponents they both beat, or the 10 best, then the Gallento list will look a lot better.

Pretty much agree (although not entirely with the second part).

A Kevin Rooney trained Tyson would have beat Joe Louis. After Buster beat Tyson, then Louis would have beaten him. Both versions of Ali would have beaten Joe Louis. Even in an interview that Joe Louis gave in the past he said that Ali's movement would have given him problems. A pre-Ali Foreman would have knocked out Louis easily. After Ali beat Foreman, then Louis would have taken him. Foreman was psychologically damaged after Ali whupped him. Earnie Shavers would have beaten Louis by a knockout. A pre-Foreman Frazier beats Louis easily. After Foreman Louis by KO. Larry Holmes would beat Joe Louis all day and all night. Louis wouldn't be able to get by his jab. Holyfield would lose to Joe Louis. Lennox lewis would beat the hell out of Joe Louis. He was too big. David Tua would have knocked out Joe Louis easily. Chris Byrd does not deserve any mention with the great names. Ike Ibeabuchi would have beaten up Louis also.

We all have to remember that Joe Louis fought to the level of his competition. Back then the competition was bad. Today, I think that Joe Louis would be trained differently and would devise strategies to try and beat a lot of today's fighters.

Of course, Louis would have also lost to roy Jones, Floyd Mayweather, etc. Read and digest history sir U might learn that there were great fighters before TV. And Abe Lincoln couldn't compare to Obama. Oh well !

Louis fought a lot of tomato cans. He had his old bum of the month sweepstakes. I know you remember that. I know my boxing history very very well. Been into boxing since I was 4 back in 1973.

Joe Louis fought the same level of opposition that Tyson fought to work his way up the ranks. TOMATO CANS.

    what stupidity is this?

before contesting the championship, louis had already fought: Everett, Sykes, Toles, Barry, Pareda, Massare, McCoy, Roper, Ramage, Perroni, Brown, Reztlaff, Carnera, Levinski, Baer, Uzcudun, Schmelling, Sharkey, Attore and Pastor.

Tyson's reign is debatable from where you count it from. due to circumstance I think his anhilation of berbick was enough to usurp spinks coming off a gift. his record pre-berbick is miles beneath that of thos Louis fought pre Braddock.

mh,I don't care who some of Joe Louis's opposition was. Sure some of his foes were called "the bum of the month club ".But he also flattened some real tough foes as Max Schmeling,Max Baer,Arturo Godoy, Bob Pastor,
John Henry Louis [1rd],Billy Conn , Buddy Baer ,was a better fighter than U think, Tommy Farr,Britain's most courageous heavyweight, and way past his peak, kod a peak Jersey Joe Walcott in 1948,Lou Nova,a dangerous Tami Mauriello, etc. These guys were no BUMS.! But what a prime Joe Louis brought to the table, was a one in a kind combination of amazing leverage, great combination punching, accompanied by great blurring handspeed and accuracy. No ONE, and I mean No One since had this unique combination. And this is why I pick Louis over anyone that followed. And Eddie Futch who saw him and all that followed Louis, also had him as No.#1. Cheers...
