Joe Louis had many great punches. He was one of the greatest all around hitters of all time.

Very possibly for correctness and delivery he takes some beating,Walcott thought Marciano had more power in a single punch, but rated Louis the better puncher ,in terms of effectiveness.

Marciano's right hand was better. I believe it was his right that took out Louis, actually.

Ernie Shavers might have something to say about that.

I have always considered Louis to be the most composite puncher in history, but not the best at one particular punch.

Louis was great at every punch, mind you. He just wasn't the greatest at those punches.

As far as other divisions are concerned, the right hand of Thomas Hearns has to be considered one of the best ever.

Shavers might well have been the hardest, but many are greater, Louis, Hearns, Gomez and Arguello for starters.

Moore deserves consideration... But what sets Louis apart is the compactness and delivery of (in particular) his over hand right. I was watching, a Louis highlight reel the other day and the amount of Knock down's that his over hand right accounted for so many of his knock downs.

In every gym in the land the land they should sit down potential boxers and make them watch Louis, in showing the correct way to punch

agreed Shavers had massive raw power, but lacked the correct technique to be considered among the best

Tommy had a great right hand, but he had the (underrated) speed to deliver his punches, Tommy rarely showed late in a fight that his right could carry him home, unlike Louis (on several occaisions)

Marciano had a clubbing right, which doesnt remotely compare to the vast array of punches Louis could deliver

was it not the left hand punch that took out Louis

Joe Louis, more than any other heavyweight, was the perfect textbook ko puncher, bar none.
