Let's say, during Louis' comeback, he wins a UD against the 30 y/o 66-5 Ezzard Charles and retires once again, this time for good, at 59-1. Ezzard rematches Jersey Joe for the title and wins, becoming the first champ to regain the title. Walcott knocks Charles out in the next fight and the timeline is restored to normal. How would this affect your placement of him in both heavyweight and P4P greatness? Would be be the undisputable GOAT for heavy? How far does he raise on your P4P list?
I guess it means that Rocky is overrated lol! ;-P Seriously though I already have Louis at 1 so I am not sure it impacts his rating for me at all. For some others it could present a new angle. Not sure it would push him up my P4P ratings. I don’t rate HW’s quite as highly in this regard as you do...so I have him 8-10 range as I modify my list.
If this turns into another 100 reply thread about Mr. Marchegiano, I blame you I thought that a win over an ATG prime heavyweight champ post-retirement would bolster his ranking p4p ranking tbh. Personally he'd be knocking on the door of Greb and Robinson for me
Sorry about the joke I hope it does not denigrate the thread. TBF I could see this elevating him to 7 P4P my top 6 are probably out of reach. Plus it seems from one of the other threads that Charles is not an ATG to some in HW sense although he is in my 15-20 range. So HW wise not sure it does much...p4p it may, but maybe not substantial enough. On the flip side I know Louis was past prime but does removing his name from Rocks ledger impact him? Who does he fight in lieu of Louis?
I currently rate Louis as #1 on my ATG Heavyweight list. This scenario wouldn't necessarily change anything, he's still in my Top 10 P4P list anyway.
The most bottom layer Marciano fan would have less to brag about (I still can't believe people talk about Marciano beating Louis on YouTube comments) Outside of that no real effect, Marciano probably would've swapped Louis out with 1-2 fights with other contenders at the time
